REDCHEQHEN Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Have had a flyaway today and am missing 8 young birds, the majority of which hadn't beeen further than the roof, all had yellow telephone number rings on PLEASE call the number on the ring if you get any NEHU strays in - they could be mine :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
davebuttle Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 will keep an eye out for them here, but wind wa blowing south today. Got one back after 3 days missing, still have 4 missing, but they are probably hawk food by now, or down the town having fish and chips with the strags. Dave
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 8, 2007 Author Report Posted April 8, 2007 1 came back under its own steam and I have had one reported by a non-fancier, which was badly injured ( and only about 400 yards away ) 6 still missing one is a DAR ring one is a FUT ring the rest are NY
davebuttle Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Fustrating when they do that, still have time to get back, but a night out on the tiles would be good for them. Was the injured one from a hawk attack or has it just hit something. Hopefully if no hawks are around it makes things easier for them to find their way home.

Was the injured one from a hawk attack or has it just hit something. Hopefully if no hawks are around it makes things easier for them to find their way home. The injury looks like it has landed upside down on a spike or aerial - and then ripped across trying to get off Happy to say we have had some back this morning ;D ;D ;D and just the DAR and FUT ringed birds are missing :'( :'(
davebuttle Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 We had one caught on some barbed wire, by its leg, limped around for about a wek and seems fine. Do you think the bird will heal up, or is it a get rid? Still hope yet Had one of my FUT birds dissappear for 3 days, came back nice and hungry. Just had one come back last night (late) that went missing 2 1/2 - 3 weeks ago, very thin but made it home. Wheres it been ?? probaly trying to avoid the hawks. Dave
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 [/img]The injured bird has a Z ring - so hope it heals as we're not breeding anymore, its been standing up today - but mostly lies down
davebuttle Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Have you cleaned the wound, we use a mix of diluted detol, and you can get antibiotic powder from a vets. If its a hole it may be worth getting it stiched up. I would use paper in the box, so that stops the bird picking anything up, then change daily. They do heal fairly quickly, but by given it helping hand it should be ok. Dave
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 Sprayed with antiseptic, yesterday and today, I find the sprays are very easy to use with one hand ( and available from the pound shops ) I am very grateful to the female non-fancier who picked it up from her neighbours garden and phoned me - said she'd put it in a box - when I went round for it she brought out this ENORMOUS box about 3'x2'x2' !! But the bird just let her pick it up without any bother
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 YER GOOD LUCK I HAD A YOUNG ONE THIS YEAR GO AWAY FOR 4-5 DAYS AND CAME BACK NICE LITTLE ONE, FAIRLY THIN BUT STILL CAME HOME, AND AS TO WHAT DAVE SAID ABOUT STAYING OUT I HAVE FOUND THE BIRDS WHICH HAVE HAD A NIGHT OUT ARE NORMALY BETTER FOR ME THAN THE ONES THAT ARE THERE IN THE DOOR INSTANLY
