pigeonman007 Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Took 6 birds for a training drop today as the weather seemed good, clear sky, no wind or rain. Only have 3 back. Let them up at 9:45, they only had 12miles to fly. First one took an hour to get back, next took 2 1/2hrs, third one only been back about 1/2hour. Still missing 3 birds. Hopefully they will be back tomorrow, they have been flying out of the loft since September and have had several 10mile drops and were beating me home from them the last few times.
ChrisMaidment08 Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 much much to cold for tossing them
OLDYELLOW Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 hope you get them back , sounds like a hawk strike they panic and fly hopefully they should work there way back
peterpau Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Bugger me too cold. Hope you get them.
Guest spin cycle Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 can't see the point in training this time of year...the forecast is for milder weather so hopefully they'll be ok...best of luck
pigeonman007 Posted December 17, 2008 Author Report Posted December 17, 2008 Had not realised the cold would affect them so badly to be honest
Guest Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Had not realised the cold would affect them so badly to be honest Young birds and yearlings are particularly prone to cold weather. 2 years and older not so bad, but still advisable not to train in cold weather
Guest bigda Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 as the above post have said they have seen a hungry hawk, thats all it takes and the will fly into trees anywhere to get out of it way there ain't a lot of birds about at this time of year the starlings are getting harder to catch, as they have been on the go all year, but fat racing pigeons, and there head not set for home, easy pickens, every lamp post on the motorways now has a hawk of some sort on it get the fat of them don't try and fly it of them, not at this time of the year supper fit hawks dangerous times
Guest casbri Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 to cold for training birds m8 dont rush em
