With the amount missing some must have gone in by now and the problem is they are so inexperienced at the moment if someone tosses them they are unlikely to get home, especially if they are in the Gwent area.  Just have to hope I guess.

who knows where they go although have a youngster here from Carmarthen, rang him, he told me he'd collect it 2 days latter and not heard from him since! Its now training with mine, if it makes it i'll end up reporting through union!

That's a problem we all face, however, as I am sure you understand not everyone is the same.

I have spent too much time and money on the flock to just throw them away and always collect when reported.

ive had many o/birds in this year without a wing stamp...worst year for it.

i like to report most but if not stamped they dont derserve to get them back.

ill never report any to the rpra anymore..had too many bad experiences when they get involved..reported bird  owner never replied waited 14 days reported back to rpra they said give him further 7 days then if not phoned from the owner then get in touch with us...i did they then said would you like to keep the bird...i told them what i thought about them and that they dont carry out their own rules on strays.......the bird was liberated ....a lesson learned.

Sorry you've lost your team of young birds,I know what it feels like, started with 32,which is ample for the size of loft I have  6 x 6 section. i'm now down to 16 with two missing this morning.I've never had a season like it,been among pigeons fot 60 year , just about had enough.

We've been letting our YB's go from there and lost one out of 22, took them down to the showcase day before yesterday with 20 and lost 2, could see three buzzards/percy/whatever in sky amongs gulls and sky looked like M25, loads of birds being trained at same time as many came back with our lot, they never came in but went off.  Where in rhondda are you?

In Maerdy, the birds wouldn't clear and as you know you can see everything from up there..  Always train our birds in batches of 10 but most of them joined together they knew that the falcon was there.  We had 2 batches of 10 complete and every other bird was a single.  We have had another 2 this morning, some of them must be in someones lofts.

hmm, yep I know Maerdy like the back of my hand, brought up in Ferndale mate. We're flying from pandy way and same as you can see everything happening.  There was absolutely hundreds of YB's thrown out over the last weeks and lots jumping onto wrong flocks, if any come our way I won't just wait for them to recover I'll drive them over to you.  No room at the inn type of thing.   I know that the day before yesterday, that muggy day we had the birds were open mouthed coming from the cinema (you know the place).  Never seen them so distressed even though it was warm.   We are pretty lucky that we have billy the Buzzard over our lofts so birds don't get overly spooked anymore but know what its like with you over there.  Anything I can do to help you out just p.m me.

Hi Lindsay,

To be blunt yes, as you know its not only the birds the falcon takes but the rest of the batch are so terrified they fly into tress/wires ETC.

This is only a 10 mile fly at the most but the birds have to cross over a 2 valleys if they are on line, it is estimated there are at least 6 pairs of falcons hunting within this area..  We have 6 birds injured, one with broken leg.  This is the worst year I have had in the last 20, been flying since I was 12.

Hi Jar Gre,

Yep know the cinema and you are right it was hot but we started leaving the birds go at 5.30 when it was cooling down..  Thanks for the kind gesture.

Probably more if you look further up toward cwmparc and the rhigos.  What I've seen happening is the YBs don't know the buzzard is no threat when they see him they fly low through inexperience and as you said they end up hitting wires.  On;y going to get worse when the turbines behind you get put up.
