Guest challengerlofts Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 I got this young bird last Sept. 2008. Been sending to in land race since 11th of April. Last Saturday 13th of June, I sent it to Lessay, France. 299 miles. S.W. Wind. 9 members sent 64 birds. Liberated at 09:30a.m., clocked in at 16:31p.m. And my yb was 18th place. I'm fying with Burtonwood Homing Society. I started to race 5 flyers & now i've got 1 left. It's gonna be hard work for me to get closer to the top 10. Good Luck to everyone.

Well done, the basket has shown you the quality bird in your loft, some of the others could have been hawked but don't go on excuses, use this pigeon to move forward. Perhaps Shortie would gift you (assume you are a newish starter) with a pair of l/b , something to mate with this cock. Good luck, now you know your management is getting close, you need some good birds!

Stop the 1 you've got left for next year! Have you got some youngbirds to race? It would be very difficult for anybody to fly the season with only 5 birds but well done for what you've achieved. Phil

That's the only YB on that Channel Race that has been mix it to the old bird race. After that 5 birds. Then for the Young Bird Race, got only 7 birds to start with. I'd like to breed up to 40 ybs to race. But i've got no place & i will end up to get reported. I'm not really sure if my neighbours gonna be happy. If they have seen fying aroung 40 pigeons. Especially if you're in new estate area.
Guest Owen Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 You are on the right track. Sending your birds has helped you to know how good they are. What makes you think 40 are going to be better than a lesser number? It is about the quality of the birds and not the numbers you send. I can win races by sending 6 against people who send up to 100. The technique is to breed from the best you have, send them racing, keep the best and breed them best to best. And repeat the process until you have a loft full of good birds. The trick is, not to stop the process and you will not have to keep loads in order to win. A lot of the best Belgium Flyers only keep and race small numbers compared to us Brits and the Dutch. Their secret is in the fact that they are ruthless at selection.
Guest gladdo Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 yeah good point.... id 9 cocks last year and they did really well against people sending big birdage however it does take its toll aswell i think esp when they can send 50 one week and a different 50 the following week ...go with what you think ...its all about what the fancier want s to do .... you can look after smaller ones better and see everything id have to agree as you have more time for the less you have .... mikey
