Guest lenwadebob Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 I have on a occasions had hens lay small eggs or soft shelled eggs, but never one this size. It weighs twice as much as a normal egg and was laid by a 2 year old hen. Anyone else had eggs this size, and if so was it fertile. (and before anyone says, NO my Banties don't go in my Loft )

Hogni Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 I had one hen last year who would lay eggs twice normal size, but that was both eggs and all her eggs were like that.
north wales novice- Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 i have one hen which lays larger than average sized eggs every year , approx 50% larger than normal . she is from a sprint based family whos ancestors are/were large bold robust pigeons , so just a family trait i think. andy.
fletch Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 I had one hen last year who would lay eggs twice normal size, but that was both eggs and all her eggs were like that. me to and had 4 out of her last year and all 4 of them were here after young bird season finished 2 took prizes too, 2 in race team one in stock loft and one borrowed to a mate, all cocks too, same again this year first round two big eggs and both look like cocks, i do feel that laying eggs that size will cause her to become infertile in time,
