I was looking at when the yearlings I have left were bred last year and there were more of the early bred ones. February rung birds seem to have faired better than later bred birds. All were trained once I had stopped breeding in the summer. I didnt race ybs last year but they were trained down to the other side of Glasgow 65 mile or so.   Maybe need to be a bit more mature for flying into here??

Doe anybody else notice a difference with early bred birds,

Only ever breed early once Ally 1978  .Had yb,s early jan,

was one of the worst year i ever had with y b,s  as i think them sitting about from feb till july before training them they were worse than latebreeds .

went back to march pairing and they never went wrong to be honest .

Just dont see any point in looking after them for an extra 3 months and feeding when you dont have to . ;)

hard to say ally as its been that cold and that defo effects all yearlings so younger ones might suffer worse

Couple of different opinions, thanks chaps. I will keep a good eye on what happens with this years ybs too, Just wondered if they benefitted from being a wee bit older before going down the road. Its a reall hilly/mountainous route they fly.
