Only signed up to site to report a pigeon that's turned up in our garden ~3 days ago (Whitley Bay - maybe it's just on hols!!). First spotted it Thursday morning just sat on the lawn not moving much. Didn't pay it much mind then as we have wild pigeons about too. By evening, it had been pecking about under the bird feeders but then just plonked itself on the patio. Could see it was ringed but not what it said as we didn't really want to try to interfere at that point. Thought we'd give it a chance to go off of its own accord so put out some seed and water and some shelter (yuck weather poor thing!). Friday evening came and it was still there sat on the doorstep, managed to get a closer look and seemed like something may have had a bit of a go at its feathers but no other obvious damage. Hubby managed to catch it (without much difficulty actually so obviously pretty weak) and its ring number identified as GB08 V07344 on one leg and another ring on other leg with 13 on it. Couldn't risk letting it free overnight again so we've got it in the garage under a washing basket (no pet carrier or suitable alternative unfortunately). Fed and watered but quite subdued. We've got the website address to report it online but given the bank holiday hoped someone might know who's bird this is so it can be returned ASAP. Please help!!

Thanx REDCHEQHEN. Tried that last night best we could after checking out the RPRA website. No sign of anything obvious. We've let it back out into the garden this afternoon on the hope that a night's rest, food and water might have given it the desire to fly again. No luck. It's still just pecking around the ground for seed then plonking itself back down for a rest. Only worry is that it seems to have poop stuck to its bum so it looks a bit sorry for itself. Will it come to any harm like this? Should we try and recapture it for the night and try again tomorrow?? Or should we maybe contact the RSPCA who might be able to check it out/house it until it can be reunited with its owner?

Big thanks to Mick who came to collect bird this afternoon. At least she's now in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing. Seems she'll need some building up before she'll be up to flying again. And hopefully she'll be reunited with her owner soon. It's great that you guys look out for each others birds like this. And thanks to this site we now know what to do and who to contact if we end up with any more visitors! Thanks again.
