RichardA Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 SU 08 DF 118 has been in my garden in Gateshead for 5 days now. Cat not bothered but I've managed to catch it and it is now residing in my garage in the cat's box. The Scottish Union sent me the owner's name and I've left messages on his answerphone. How long should I keep it for? Are lost birds any good, as they are clearly not up to the job? Any suggestions? Reluctant pigeon keeper.

DJ Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 well done richard for taking care of a lost racing pigeon have u got something to feed it such as barley, rice, wild bird or budgie seed etc it would also need a small pot/bowl of water but maybe u have already done this ? pigeons become very dehydrated if they cant find water when they are trying to find their way home so access to water asap can be vital please send me a pm if u need any further advice and thanks for making the effort to relocate a lost racing pigeon with its owner debbie
cemetary Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Well done for taking the time to feed and water the bird, clocky is the man to help you out with this one. Is there any mine down there, ;D
RichardA Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Posted May 15, 2009 Thanks for the messages - yes, this rather handsome pigeon has been fed and watered........we followed advice and fed him on day one, no feed for the next 3 days but he was still hanging around (bit of a mess on the patio.......!!), now he's caged he's had some uncooked rice and wild bird seed. I'll give the owner another ring tomorrow (J Foran of Dundee). None of Cemetary's birds are currently in my garden, but I'll keep a look-out!! Its dark out there now, mind...! Whose Clocky??e

RichardA Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 Owner rang my wife today while I was at work (13 hr shift!) and on his advice my son took the bird over a fair few fields and let it out. Of course he's back this evening (both my son and the bird.............) roosting somewhere. I'll ring the owner again tomorrow to see if he'll pick the bird up, otherwise Mr Cheeseman's kind offer.............
