cameus Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Hi, a bird landed this afternoon and started following me around. When I first saw it ,it was hunched and looking pretty sorry for itself. It showed no sign of leaving so I picked it up and put it in a cage with bird seed and water, ate the seed like hell!! It has a white ring, number 4008, and a red ring, numbers WHU 2008 and N1 2003. Any advice please?
b.massey Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Sounds like a welsh pigeon mate. And was the white fing like a rubber ring? Sounds like it is and is been at the racing
cameus Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Make sense as I am in Wales, the question is do I just let it go after it's had a rest?
Guest stb Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 i you could try that but will prob come back in cos its getting fed there. feed and water it in a basket inyour garage or somwhere then when its filled out a bit take it a few miles away and let it go. if it comes back just put ring no on here .
pjc Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 have you looked in its wing, there maybe the owners phone number or e-mail the number to gail@whpu.org.uk and she'll locate the owner for you.
cameus Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 WHU 2008 and N1 2003 are the numbers on the red ring.
Guest Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 WHU 2008 and N1 2003 are the numbers on the red ring. remember this ring being read by a non-fancier , WHU2008N 12003 , is possibly how we would read it . andy.

kev01293 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 thanks for taking care of a lost racing pigeon cameus its sounds as if its exhausted itself trying to find its way home but after a few days of rest it may fly back home itself you can feed it wild bird seed, rice, barley, wheat etc and it will need access to clean water in a small dish try releasing it after a few days or ring the welsh homing union to trace the owner via its ring no. kevin
cameus Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Thanks for that. I've put it in a cage with wild bird seed and water and emailed the address suggested above. It seems a lot happier now and I'm sure it'll be fine. Cheers, Malcolm.
