I have found a bird today in our stable block just outside Cupar. I know nothing at all about pigeons but signed on here to see if it belongs to anyone. It has two rings. One is dark green I think. The other is red and has "AF1523" then "SU" on top of "09". It is a lovely looking bird and just followed us around since this morning. I came home and it was still here, so I put it in our old cat cage (sorry)! Anyway, I fed it some organic brown rice and lentils and some wild bird seed and it has a bowl of water. I will keep it in there for the night as we have a few cats who go out all night. Any idea where it has come from. I am heading to Ireland on Thursday and the people who are coming to stay in our house have said if it is still here they will have it for tea! I was wondering if it might find it's way home if I let it out tomorrow morning after a night of rest, food and water.  It doesn't appear to have any stamp on the wings but I don't want to handle it too much, so I might have missed something....would it be really noticable if it has writing on the underside of the wing?

Hey thanks, I just spent an hour phoning around every organization I could think of that might be able to give me a number to phone about this...no luck, but this forum gets result in minutes...

I will give him, or her a ring now. Thanks again.

I don't fancy the poor birds chances of taking off from here...we have about 8 resident buzzards and quite a few other hawks just in this estate.

Thanks for the offer, I found the owner through the contact given. The owner asked me to take it to a local guy who had bought a pigeon from him recently. I took the pigeon over in the morning and it will be looked after until it is collected by the owner.  The guy showed me the place on the underside of the wing with the contact details....I would never have spotted it as I didn't know the feathers had to be splayed out to see the writing!  Thanks everyone for the help, I am glad I was able to find a safe place for the bird before heading off to Ireland.
