DJ Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 hi chris i know how u feel ive heard all the excuses myself and been told : i dont keep them anymore, or its a really well bred bird, or he,s on holiday, or i cant afford to send for it so can u feed it and chuck it up for me i could go on but i wont i know not all fanciers are the same and i have to say that some do send for their birds and even drive miles to me to collect them but they seem in the minority im always glad to have one of my birds reported and will either send for it or drive to collect it myself surely when u race u should budget to send for lost pigeons debbie
robbie1 Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 ive had about 12 foriegners come in my lofts in the past 10 days!!! and 1 of the dutch hens that came in the owner is coming over for it on july 28th i always report all strays i cant bear to see a stray walking the street neither i always have to catch them and report them which i know some people dont i always wont to know where mine end up if there lost
jimmy_84 Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 i was chasing 1 all over our village for a few days trying to catch it kept an eye on it took food down with a bowl got close to it not close enough to get ring number but afet a few days it flew away and haven't seen it since the other i reported a few weeks back was sent for by the owner he called upon amtrak and they were on time to collect and drop off
robbie1 Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 i took my youngsters training today 45 mile and they came back with a belgium 07 cheq wf hen i emailed belgium fed straight away but ive had it loads of times reporting english strays prime example last week a chap from devon i rung and said his yearling blue cock dropped in mine he said nut it for me please mate i said no you send for it or ill ring rpra was i right or wrong???
Roland Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 You know, and these are real facts, Many started with Churchers in days gone by. Many had great results. Now the reality is 98% of pigeons aren't up to it. That is a hard to swallow fact. 80% ... more if one believes all they hear and read, are bred in the purple. 95% are related to National winners etc. etc. 25 IN real terms make the grade. Now if s a stray, bred in the pink meets another stray at the church rendovue and have young, chances are that they will breed better youngsters that MOST fanciers / Lofts. It has at least as much chance as most matings. If I was realastic, then a see nothing wrong in having 12 strays (6 pairs) and would do as well, if not better than most lofts. Golly 10 minutes before 50% of birds are lost, they are thought of as a 'Hope' a 'Main stay' of the future in the loft!
DJ Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 i think u were right robbie to threaten the owner with the rpra especially after he asked u to move it on and obviously didnt want to send for it i also picked up a stray in town a while back as the weather over that weekend had been windy with some rain and the bird looked totally flown out when i spoke to the owner it turned out that it was the first time the bird had gone amiss and apparently the race birds had hit some bad weather crossing the channel he and his wife were more than pleased to send for it debbie
ChrisMaidment08 Posted July 20, 2008 Author Report Posted July 20, 2008 things will only get worse as raceing continues
ChrisMaidment08 Posted July 20, 2008 Author Report Posted July 20, 2008 better birds cought than bought
