Guest spin cycle Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 i've got my last bird back from fraserburgh ( 8th june)on monday. he's been isolated as per rules but he's perfect.....my take is that he made a mistake..dropped into another loft..been looked after and tossed up again. whoever did this did me a favour and i'm grateful..this is more or less what i do. with the amtrak horror stories if the bird can survive the box journey it can probably fly home. of course you can't really do this for ybs as they may not know where home is.
Blue Tooner Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Had a bird return Sunday evening, had been missing since snfc Newbury the week before, he had a note with a phone No. Rang the guy and told me the bird arrived at his loft in Amble on the evening of the race, he fed and watered the bird but he wouldnt leave so keep him isolated for the week then tossed him from Eyemouth on Sunday afternoon. It's always good to know where they've been. When I was a fisherman we got many GB rung strays on the boat and I always put a note on their legs and had many phonecalls of thanks and also amazement when they knew their birds had in some cases landed on the boat around 100 miles East of Shetland ??) Many thanks to Mr Spears of Amble for looking after my bird ;)
Michael J Burden Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 yes and why not if their asked me too after iv reported them have you a problem with it ? helley i read it and understand and have done so at their request many times.
speedbird Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 why do so many not either wing stamp,or have tel number ring? i always report it but it would save so much time & effort if they had either of these & the owner would get the yb back sooner!!!!! is the reason for this because they cant be botherd to send for em???
wings Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 I drive up to scotland most monday morning and since the beginning of the race season, and have liberated 4 pigeons from happendon services. would like to have informed the fancier but don't know how to get in touch with them (just to let them know that the birds are ok.

OLDYELLOW Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 I think taking the birds nearer home reduces strays just been kicked out from loft to loft and end up in town centres increasing there population , and encouraging more race birds to join them , keep the stray return up ( good on you ) i take stray N.E.H.U and SU birds from Scarborough up to Sunderland , many times thankless but i feel that i have done my bit to keep the sport going
wings Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 My sentiments exactly, i always try to look after birds that have come into my loft to, but i bet there is a few that don't.
OLDYELLOW Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 i picked a bird from Goole when i went up to Billy Wilson and sent it to Hull to get it home , i treat all pigeons that come in as if they were my own . I do it because birds can make a mistake but one mistake doesnt make a bad bird
billy wilson Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 just like to say mark that pigeon got home okay as he gave brian a wring to thank him thanks alot mark fellow was over the moon.another one dropped in this morning whilst training it was from crook [billy row] ive notified the secretary.thanks once again mark. billy
OLDYELLOW Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Hi Billy thanks for letting me visit and our chat ( not that i got a word in lol , only joking Billy ) , Glad guy was appreciative , glad to hear bird returned had to fly 10 mile up like from Hull but better to fly from the south than north , if more folk did the same there be more fanciers , many folk pack up when an old favorate goes , or cant put up with the huge losses
