Guest Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 ;D blimey Jas , training already ?? when is youre first race ?? do you normally start this early in the season ?? andy ;D
Guest jason Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 The first race is on the 28th of july, I start training this early as to get plenty of short training chucks in, remember they're young birds and are on a steady training schedule instead of 'rushing them down the road' like a lot of fanciers do. I just don't like rushing them and with starting early you can take your time and get them well educated. jason
Guest jason Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 4th chuck- 3 mile 22nd june 1st.......lot 36 2nd......lot 18 3rd.......lot 4 4th.......lot 33 5th.......lot 29 6th.......lot 32 jason p.s. I'll take some pictures later to post on here
Guest Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 ;D thanks Jas , and does the early training work ?? , as regards losses and youngbird performances , interested to see the replies ! andy 8)
Guest jason Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 I don't know if it works, but it makes me feel better as the birds are getting used to spending time in the baskets and being liberated and the more you do it the more the birds will be used to it so there should be a lot less stress when the races start. besides this, every other member of our club has already started training. good or bad, the results will show I suppose jason
Guest jason Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 also forgot to add, its 5 weeks to first race, when we've had them out to 30 mile, they will only go 3 times per week so its not that early really. I.e. they may have (everyday) a week at 3 mile, a week at 7 mile a week at 15 mile thats 3 weeks gone, then a few at 25 miles and on to a few at 30 to 40 mile and by then we're upto the first race. My own personal belief is that the short training chucks are more important in relation to the birds knowing their own area and knowing it well. nice and steady and a good education jason
