Fair Play Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Maybe I am being too sceptical but I am not a firm believer on Internet auctions in conjunction with a saleroom auction I think all I am doing is setting down a marker for other people with my online bid which is then the starting bid for the saleroom. Maybe there is another way. I noticed on an other site well known fanciers are selling their birds online if your bid is the winner then that's what you pay, I think online/saleroom auctions are just another way of artificially pushing up the price of the birds and applaud these fanciers who give "Joe Public" a fair crack at the whip.

superstar Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Simple answer is just dont bid on line or your the one inflating the price! Go to the sale if the bird is worth having and dont play the silly game
soontjen21 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 exactly well said .. they use the people on line to give them a starting guide .. just don't bid they won't sell them to you at the price you bid anyway ..and why do they call them auction's ? an auction is when an item is sold to the highest bidder ..these sale's or not auction's but pigeon sale's because most of them start with a reserve and they aren't small some in the thousand's how can it be an auction
mark Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 i went to a auction today at southampton all the auctioner was trying to do was talk the price up.
retired Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Thats the Auctioneers job Mark to get the best price for his client and to earn himself as much commision as possible. I do however agree with Fair Play the whole stink of taking someones winning bid as an opening bid in the auction room stinks you are basically being used as some of you have already said. Lets just be greatful our webmaster is not so obsessed with money to screw us over like that.
mark Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 i went to a auction today at southampton all the auctioner was trying to do was talk the price up. i dont need to be told at auction these birds would fetch alot more at blackpool every 2 minutes by the auctioner.
retired Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 No maybe not but they will do everything they can to complete the sale the simple response to him would be "p*ss off and take them to Blackpool then"

gangster Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 i also bid on a number of birds offered via internet/auction room.....i won 3 on the net...but only 1 in the room.......but she was class..
Guest Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 dont think its fair to either online bidders or at the sale room whos to say the person bidding on line is genuine or just knocking the price up and no intension of buying
DOVEScot Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Like any auction, do not bid any more than what you think it's worth to you. If someone else thinks it's worth more then they win. You are within your right to offer a starting bid and a final bid, this stops them from starting on your final one, so you have little or no chance of winning, if some else is interested. If an auctioneer was selling your items, you would be well peaved if he did not get the best prices for you. But like any other game you have your chancers and bent auctioneers, ones that drag it out and ones that close it as soon as :-/ Also depends if they have ten items to sell or 100 items to sell in the given time
