  1. we never darken our young birds until 21st march as this is when the days are longer than the nights. Eight to ten weeks will get them through the body moult. Last year we took Frank Tasker,s advice and gave them 12 hours of dark and 12 hours of light . This meant we had more time to fly the birds after work before darking down.

  4. We got our birds tested by Ian Cameron of Manor Court Vets a few weeks ago to see what if any treatment was needed before racing . We have not treated for worms since 2001 but had virtually nill count for worms , cocci, or canker. Ian recommended no treatment. Using this service for the first time cost us the price of all these treatments and also set our minds at rest. William

    Chasey, if you want to win with these young birds breed as early as possible but don,t put on dark until middle of march. Keep em on the dark for ten weeks , train em from about three months old.
