  3. Get KEEPSMILINGQUEEN to log on to Amtrak website and click on contact and inform quality link We all know you oppinion Roland, and you may be right the local guys may be overworked and underpaid genuine guys, who's no. but if it's a system error then lets get amtrak to sort it

  7. We had to dispose of all eggs laid for a month after the all clear and any chicks in the nest We eat the hens eggs so it was important to get all clear, and you are right you can never be totally free of any infection, its down to parts/million and thats what you have to manage When you vaccinate the birds you are giving them a strain or by-product of the infection so they can build up their immune system If you could erradicate these diseases you would be worth a small fortune The minute you let your birds out you run the risk of infection, eg. if your bird lands on the roof where a feral pigen has been if your bird drinks out an external water source where any other animal has been if a feral pigeon sh### on you loft roof etc. etc the probabilities are endless Send away samples to get analysed, find out what they have thats threatening and treat only for that I learned all this the hard way, lost a lot of birds and took advice from top vets and DEFRA

You can find the s.a.c.c. at www.vetclick.com as well
  9. Wheely bin We were told that this is a way that the viruses and bacteria are becomming more frequent, the scavengers are feeding on diseased birds at the landfills, becoming infected and also carrying them in their droppings, hence recyling the problem We were lucky we stay near a paper mill, put them in sealed containers and threw them in the furnace Proof if we leave the chicken that we eat to decay you contract salmonela becuase it multiplies in rotting poultry, hten what is happenig to birds you put in wheely bins

We took some scrapings and fresh droppings and put them in a plastic dish that you normally get your takeaway chinese in. They are cheap and easily available. Wash the dish thoroughly(we bleached them and then dried them). They seal easily and add tape for an extra, you can post these cheaply to any of the vets suggested of your local DEFRA(who tend to be on the expensive side) I have been told that www.manorcourtvets.co.uk are good they wiil test for anything and I believe the head partner is a pigeon man. Hope this helps DAN Senior

Contact your local DEFRA, they will help or give you a list of avian vets in your area,
  13. Mine turned out to be salmonela, one of the signs is a symtem called star-gazing, they did have good days, but we had to bite the bullet and cull them as soon as they showed any signs. We have a small holding and all our stock had to be tested by DEFRA, they prefer life stock to post motem then after that you take a cross section of the droppings Once DEFRA is involved, (becuase we have chickens/eggs) we have to send regular samples, and so far we have good results Almost every ailment is always present in your stock and always will be, one good way to combat ailments is to keep your stock in good condition and vaccinated if need be so they can fight of any ailments, but not full proof. Ours was brought in by a crackin looking pigeon I bought from another breeder it showed no signs of any ailment I informed the other breeder who did not address the issue and it wiped out his whole stock We use Stalosan powdered disenfectant, this combats the bugs multiplying on any surface, it does not totaly destroy but gets them down to a safe ratio i.e. parts/million With any stock that you have, "if you try to keep them totally free", then they catch something they don't survive Vaccinations are by-products of the ailment which are administered to anything including me and you so they can buid up antidodies of their own to combat ailments So what ever you may have...... Isolate it Sacrifice it Get it or its droppins tested even if it doesn't survive TAKE YOUR DECEASED TO THE VET OR "BURN THEM", DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE WHEELY BIN, THE SCAVINGERS AT YOUR LOCAL LANDFILL MAY FIND THEM AND PICK UP AND PASS ON THE PROBLEM BACK TO YOU OR ONTO SOMEONE ELSE
  14. Why you ask Because you seem to spout quite a bit on behalf of amtrak just interested, what you base your knoweldge on
  15. I asked this theory some time ago, I was visiting a loft and the guy lifted the sitters, looked at the eggs and decided on there state without touching them, 10/10 he was right, I recently bought a candler, which is a small powerful torch, after five days you can see all the veins and at ten days you can see the heart beat When we used to collect wild birds eggs you would float them to tell their state so you could blow them, same theory
  16. What is your experience in the haulage business, Have you ever run a haulage business Have you ever run a business and if so what type, please
  17. They must be running full if a pigeon or two in a pigeon box threatens their overload and a pigeon box is an awkward load ;D £30 for delivering a pigeon in a box is still good money If a driver makes a genuine mistake then we all make them, but if he disnae give a dam he's certainly no getting a cup of tea from me. All couriers have the same overheads and if they cock up they should sort it, any courier delivering and picking up from me including Amtrack are great and most helpful, but somewhere along the line theres a botch up and if we complain in the correct manner then we have a chance of getting the service we are paying for. But if we just put up and shut up then it stays the same or gets worse This is not good for us or Amtrak becuase the more they cock the less we use them. this also could stop them transporting birds Try another theory, the better they get the more we use them, the keener they are to please us :-/ My last experience was a total botch-up and needed addressed and it has, it was a system failure and Amtrack have appologised and promised to correct it, I never asked for compensation as gladly the birds are being treated and now doing fine At the end of the day you get what you pay for and that is all we're asking, not too much in my books
  18. I appreciate your knowledge on freight handling I have a business contract with UPS and can ship anything up to 80kg for £7.50 in the uk and can get a standard 24" x 24" x 24" box from europe for £12, I am always getting reps willing to take my business That includes getting a parcel picked up and dropped of from any location Given that a runt weighs just over 1kg and a pigeon box is 9" x !0" x 3" £30 is good money
  19. Up till the last time I have never had a problem with Amtrak and I hope I never have a problem again. Unfortunately if most of us, especially if you are up north or even if you are anywhere just off the beaten amtrak you have no choice but use them. In the past I have driven well over 100 miles just to look at birds and the truth is there was a time my dad used to cycle from fife to peterhead We all want good blood line birds. So sometimes we have to recieve them from far and wide, Maybe we could just breed our own locally and send back all the dutch and belgian bloodlines we have come to rely on but as you know that would be rediculous or is the ones that have got them want to keep them to themselves and their buddies
  20. Go to amtrack.co.uk, top right hand corner....contact us link.....quality link and highlight your problem to them. most of these problems are down to human or system error so inform them so they can rectify it, if you accept it as others seem to think you shoulkd do, then the problems will just continue In business its called quality control thats why they have this feature on their website
  21. Then if they only have a small amount of complaints say for this month 10 in a 1000 then no business could justify to its share holder they stopped because of a 1% deficate they would get repremanded. If as you say they have shifted a few thousand at 30.00 minimum a go, then your worried thy're going to give up £90,000.00+ turn over a month because 1% complained legitamitly, I really don't think so And if they did and this was the turnover I am sure the pigeon world find some one else to take that sort of money
  22. 1. Pigeons, especially mature cocks should never be put in the same box 2. Preorder your boxes they're free don't wait till you get a sale, they are flat pack and easy to store 3. If you pay for anything and its not what you paid for, then you have a right to complain 4. If it gets damaged in the proccess then you have aright to compensation
  23. I totally agree in credit where credit is due, but on the same token, surely you have a right to complain when credit is not due and highlight this as you did or is there rules for some but not for others. Do you want everybody to just paint rosey pictures :-/ Please answer this simple question,
