Thats exactly how it should be but it isnt just now. Anyone who is a true sportsman would see that this is how it should be and even if some people didnt agree the vast majority would surely see that it is for there own good and true results to bring this rule in place to stop the minority of people who seek to gain some sort of advantage.
-
Every pigeon racing should be eligible to win 1st club,1st section, 1st Open but the loft that is flying to must in my opinion 1) be within the club boundary set by the club 2) be within a section boundary set by the Fed. Now Clubs are clubs and make up their own rules and boundaries and as time goes bye clubs are opening up boundaries to get new members which is leaving the feds old rules vulnerable to manipulation. The Federation should act now and set three boundaries East/Centre and West and regardless of what club you fly in this is the section prizes you race for. This is only common sense and is fair to everyone that is an honest sportsman
-
If the sections were true sections the results of each section would still have some significance in that area each week but the way its gonna go an open result will be all that is required soon because dont think for one second other people wont start changing clubs to change section in order to gain advantage to win. That in my opinion is people kidding themselves on.
-
Theres no doubt that the best way is to have section results but they need to be proper sections based on loft location with 15 prizes but also an open result for the first 40 birds so that the first 40 pigeons each week are actually awarded these prizes. The style of the national result is what is required and wouldnt be hard to do. If the first 40 pigeons come from the same section then the next pigeons are only from sections that havent had there tickets fulfilled. Its quite simple really made difficult by a lack of common sense.

The people at the top should be addressing this situation, The Federation should have its own section boundaries based on loft location not clubs. The situation where two men flying in the same federation that stay next door but because one man is a member of one club and the other is a member of an other which means they fly in two different sections is just silly. If people are willing to abuse rules to gain advantage in that they fly in a certain section, sections would be as well done away with and have 50 open positions which is far truer result anyway. how many times has birds that have been 16th and 17th section actually been 16th/17th open but recieve nothing where as a pigeon can be 15th in another section but be well into the hundreds in terms of an open position if the result we looked at was a true reflection. If people start joining clubs to fly in sections as as been spoke about on this thread sections are as well being done away with, but what should happen is the people at the top should stand up and determine the boundaries for each section and get some common sense into the sport.

JohnS replied to jocky's topic in Lanarkshire Federation and Club Results
Glad to see my dad finally win a race after so many near misses, ive felt quite guilty since my dog killed 25 of his young birds laast year and some old birds as well. As for being nowhere in the fed without Eadie/Kelly, just looked at the results and W Smart missed the fed result in one race all year which was the open race when 22nd section. I was there when he timed in Ypres and i saw the buzz he and other pigeon fanciers must get, ive not told him yet but ill buy him 25-30 young birds for next year off my dogs pups when i sell them.fairs fair cos most folk would have chapped it on the nut. -
A common sense approach is required when racing pigeons from these distances, the larger the convoy the better instead of a small convoy. The Lanarkshire pigeons should have been with the SNFC and it would have helped returns.small convoys are no use racing from these distances and never will be, people moan about basketing locations etc and hassle but its the pigeons who should come first and doing what's best for them and pigeons in the area.

re alf, i agree thats what people vote for and thats if thats what they want they should get it. the distance of 150 miles would just about be suffcient b4 jumping to 250 mls IF there was a good run of decent races at 60,75,100,120,150,150 but as we have it it is 60,60,75,75,110 then 150. its the 4 races under 100 miles that tells us nothing about our pigeons and creates many false dawns. thats why so often we have bad later races in young birds as all are lost at once on a day they have to work.
-
can i ask people what there shortest and longest races r? oyr shortest is about 60, but we dont get over 100 mile till 5 th race of 6. anyone the same?
-
i agree with the false economy thing. yes and giving us a 180 ml race before national undoubtedly helps them compete a bit better. theres no need for 4 races under 100 mile! if we scrapped a kelso and had a wakefield at end it would be better.IN MY OPINION. people are always going on about no young blood in our sport just imagine someone racing youngsters/keeping them all winter then then dropping like flys when they hit a bit of distance and head wind. im fully aware distance is why we lose as many pigeons but racing them from short distances isnt what racing is about. meetings are also full of people who dont complete the fed programme.
-
just a post wondering how far each members longest young bird race is each year? my federations is 148 miles which is Ripon. This is on the back of two 60 miles, two 76 miles and one about roughly 110 miles. If i want to compete in th young bird national i have to jump my pigeon 100 miles into different racing conditions(drag of pigeons all over). this is my opinion is not giving pigeons a chance in the national.people will say go to meeting but these meetings are held back by people scared to lose their pigeons. whats peoples thoughts and opinions on young bird racing and distances?
-
i read this on joe murphys lastest article on the elimar pigeon website that lanarkshire is going with snfc. i think it is agood thing. if u can win two prizes/2 pool moneys with same pigeon on the same day i think it can only be good. with regards to money with all the losses everyone was complaining about last year they wont have many to enter anyway.
-
ive just read that lanarkshire r going with snfc to maidstone as both r on same day this year. will the same pigeon be able to compete in both races?
-
so what were all the top pigeons for sale at blackpool in everyones opinion, what was the pick even though most of us cant afford them? my pick was WALL LUNT GREENS pigeon MERLIN.

THATS MY POINT, I THINK YOUNG PIGEONS SHOULD BE FLYING AT LEAST 180-200 MILES IN A FED RACE BEFORE A NATIONAL. LAST YEAR THERE WAS A FORTNIGHT GAP ALLOWING PIGEONS TO RACE FROM WAKEFIELD IN AN OPEN RACE BEFORE THE NATIONAL. THIS RACE STOOD THESE PIGEONS IN GOOD STEAD AS BY LOOKING AT THE RESULTS OF BOTH SOME PIGEONS SCORED IN BOTH.THIS YEAR WE DONT HAVE A FORTNIGHT GAP.I UNDERSTAND WHY WE COME BACK TO OTTERBURN TO GIVE LATTER BRED YOUNGSTERS A RACE BUT WHY NOT HAVE AN EXTRA RACE FROM 180-200 MILES? PEOPLE ALWAYS BLAME THIS THAT AND THE NEXT THING FOR LOSSES. MY OPINION IS THAT IT IS DISTANCE THAT SEPEARTES THE BETTER PIGEONS FROM THE BUNCH. ANY ONE WHO DISAGREES THAT DISTANCE= LOSSES ASK YOUR SELF THE QUESTION IF WE HAD FIVE OR SIX KELSOS/OTTERBURNS(60 AND 80 MILES) WOULD WE LOSE AS MANY PIGEONS? IF OUR PIGEONS CANT DO IT, HOW CAN WE EXPECT THE NEXT GENEARTION TO DO IT??

IN ONE OF MY PREVIOUS POSTS I MENTIONED THAT THE PIGEONS IN THE EAST COAST HAVE AN ADVANTAGE SCOOTING UP THE EAST COAST(MANY PEOPLES OPINION). THIS IS PROBABLY WHY SOME PEOPLE(PERHARPS A MINORITY) WANT A RACE FROM THE WEST TO PREVENT SUCH AN OCCURENCE. I PERSONALLY WANT TEH PIGEONS TO BE DOWN A CENTRAL ROUTE EG NEWBURY SO TAHT NO AMTTER THE WIND THE PIGEONS CAN ADAPT AND HAVE A CHANCE OF GETTING HOME. I THINK NEITHER WEST OR EAST ROUTES R BETTER AND PEOPLE ONLY VOTE TO CERTAIN ROUTES SO TAHT THEY THINK THEY R GAINING SOME SORT OF ADVANTAGE. AT SCOTTISH NATIONAL LEVEL I PERSONALLY BELIEVE IN CHANNEL RACES THE LOFT LOCATION BECOMES LESS IMPORTANT HOWEVER THE OCCURENCE OF PIGEONS BEING TIMED IN FIFE,DUNDEE AND ABERDEEN BEFORE PIGEONS IN THE WEST SECTION PROVES THE EAST COAST IS OF MASSIVE IMPORTANCE TO NUMBER OF LOFTS. WHAT I WILL SAY IS ONCE IT COMES TOTHE YOUNG BIRD NATIONAL THE FEDS/CLUBS R STREETS AHEAD OF MY AREA. MY FEDERATION(LANARKSHIRE), THE BIGEST IN SCOTLAND, HAS A LONGEST YOUNG BIRD RACE OF ROUGHLY 140 MILES(RACEPOINTS DIFFER EACH YEAR), WHERE AS UP THE EAST THERE BIRDS HAVE BEEN AT OR PAST THE YOUNG BIRD ANTIONAL RACEPOINT. A BIG ADVANTAGE IN MY OPINION. A QUESTION I MUST ASK TO THE FORUM IS HOW FAR IS YOUR LONGEST FED YOUNG BIRD RACE???
-
I SEE THERE IS A PROPOSAL TO HAVE A NATIONAL RACE FROM SKIBBEREEN IN SOUTHERN IRELAND INTO SCOTLAND THIS YEAR. WHATS PEOPLES THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ON THIS? MY PERSONAL OPINION IS ITS NOT A GOOD IDEA DUE TO LINE OF FLIGHT AND AFFECTS THAT THE WIND COULD HAVE ON THE BIRDS. WHAT I WILL SAY IS THE PEOPLE IN THE WEST SECTION OF THE NATIONAL WOULD APPEAR HIGHER UP THE RESULTS AND THE EAST SECTION WOULD STRUGGLE DUE TO NOT BEING ASSISTED BY THE WIND OR THE EAST COAST THAT THERE PIGEONS SCOOT UP ON MOST OCCASSIONS.

i am interested in peoples views and experiences of the subject mentioned. every one will ahve opinions on breeding eg first cross, best to the best etc etc, what im interested is in peoples experience of inbreeding and linebreeding!! and special performances from such matings. what is peoples favourite pairings? there r many combinations but peoples experiences are something novice fanciers cant buy!

regarding the iodine mentioned in a previous post by TAMMY. 2-3 drops once a week. is it a particular type of iodine that must be used? and also regards the cidar vinegar/bi carb reacting against each other what is best way of avoiding this? is it as simple as use one and not the other?
