    Moving house

I broke 39 birds in 11 days from 9 miles away using a similar method. I found that they always spent the first day and night at the old place but nearly all came back and went in on the 2nd day. Good luck

    Training

Who`s losted birds in training already this year.???
  6. I do this every year mate. The younsgters are 21 days, and both youngsters are removed leaving the cock to relax for a bit on his own. Try different methods, its the only way you will find out what works. Good luck

    Training

WHY!!!!! Abit of Sun and now into March, why do you want to train. You have cared for the birds all over the winter and will drop birds left right and centre if you train now. Far to cold, If they are experienced birds they don`t need training untill a week before. July is when all the good races are so why start them this early.
  8. No messing mate. Pull the flight. It will take 5 weeks to grow fully. That will make it ready for your first race. I`ve do this every time one breaks and thats why I know the duration for the growth. It does`nt harm the bird.
  9. would you do it for free?? Thats their living mate. Its like asking you to do a days work for nothing. Good cause though, however the cost of fuel and all that, its a bit much to ask.
  10. i moved 5 times in 7 seasons back in the 1990`s broke 39 birds wthin 10 days in my existing property and managed to race 6 birds from one loft and 14 days later to another location and a different loft. the main secret is that the birds have no where to enter at your old property. The hen is always the best to break first. Break the cock when driving the freshly broken hen hard. It really is a doddle. let me know if you need more info and good luck.
  11. I also seen this stand, Did`nt take much notice although thought that the birds feet looked dirty as the bottom of the crates were full of s*** I walked away at this point, but now thinking about it did`nt see water pots on the crates. Please correct me if there were. However should write a formal complaint to Mr Bills to stop this guy next year.
  12. And we all wonder where all the young members are? This sport/Hobby is getting to expensive for all. I might take up Train spotting, Only need to buy a Anorak.
  13. Won`t pair up untill mid March, Trying something new this year.
  14. Steve Wright IN Exeter is a good place for Jan Ardens
  15. AND PLEASE TELL US WHATS NATURAL ABOUT RACING PIGEONS.AND BY THE WAY IT WAS EXPERIENCED IN THE 70's 80's ONLY BY A FEW You said it. Experienced by only a few!
  16. Not knocking the Jan Arden, I have plenty myself. Staf Van Wanroys are a good long distance strain which crosses well with the Van Der Wegens. They are good for distance. Might be able to help you out if interested.
  17. Midas Man featureing Ron Ball was full of good info. Why Widowhood, was interesting, All the modern day ones are dissapointing.
  18. I think theres alot out there who think they know whats best to give a bird, however none of us really know what its doing to the birds inside whether its good or long term bad. I treat twice a year for worms, Every youngster is given a canker tablet once its weaned, after that nothing is given, if they become ill they are isolated and given fresh water and food, If no improvement they are finished for good and no longer a problem. Fit and healthy birds shouldn't need this and that, to help it stay healthy, its not natural and this practice wasn't experienced in the 70`s and 80`s and back then there wasn't youngbird sickness around and didn't need to vaccinate each year before 1983. and fly aways were no way as common as they are today.
  19. Personally I would put a dozen in there. No more.
  20. DON`T USE LIGHTS. Just give the Hens plenty of exercise in the months leading up to pairing. As long as they are fit, and the weather is above freezing, they go down very quickly.
  21. Thank you Bik Bok I know what I want in this sport, however I know how hard it is to achieve, I shall keep plugging on until I achieve it
  22. Pigeon racing is what you make it, Its either a hobby or you want to make more of it. If you put the time and money into it then good luck to you. If you are unable to do this, then a hobby it is, Whatever you go into these days, theres always people with more money, and basically buy there own success. I personally prefer to work at it, without money doing all the work. I buy birds, you need to,however will never pay a fortune for them, and if I was fortunate enough to make something of myself in this sport, then I agree with stuart that I would sale a few, to keep me in corn and enter a few more in the better races Merry Christmas to all.
  23. I take the water out at night, Replace it in the morning, If it re freezes during the day, then thats to bad!! Have`nt got the time to fuss about them like some. They are pigeons, they can cope alot better than you think. Just look at steaming hot race days when flying 400 miles plus in 28 degrees, they get home!(most do) I don`t think this weather bothers them to much, At the moment I let my hens out one day and the cocks the next, what ever the weather, today the hens went out in 2 inches of snow, they flew for around 90 minutes or so and then back n they came. I have kept pigeons for 30 years, they are clean, they race well, don`t suffer illnesses, never have huge losses throughout the season, I feel they are well looked after, but find that there is no need for all the flaffing around that some do. That is not criticism to anyone, just my opion.
  24. what`s the x factor? who`s Joe.? Never watched it.
