I'm waiting for my upgrade copy, didn't sound to exciting from what I'd read, perhaps it will be a pleasant surprise. The only thing is will it affect ETS will there be a need for new software to run using 7?
  3. Dead right Roly, sorry to hear you've been let down Bob, you never know there may be a reason but if not I would think no one would take a bid from this fancier again.
  4. Apologies I'd just like to bring this back to the top , in case there is someone with info on Tipes who has not seen the post
  5. what's your area pls?
  6. Yes and it comes back to route, locality & environment if you want racing on the nose (but again it's some what of a macho thing, look at racehorses which Derby winner is the true champion, the one who wins on heavy going or the one that wins on good??), sadly the North rd on the western side of England & particularly Wales has very few still flying it, this is where you get your true test birds nearly always flying into a headwind, the lads who used to fly from Plymouth & Penzanze from Lerwick what iron birds they must have had, sadly we've lost them, However if there is anyone on this forum flying north road into Somerset please get in contact I would love to see some proper headwind North roaders or come to that any Welsh lads/lasses on here still flying North to Thurso & Lerwick. I hear fanciers saying I like a hard one, well I'm not so keen, I prefer a fair one that's steady then for me you get the athlete But hey I wouldn't give a butterflies pollen whether it was 2200 or 800 ypm if I had every bird home from 500 but for me especially the 550-700 mile races
  7. Actually in Brecon, do you race pigeons? The only club your way used to be Talgarth, I take my hat off to you if you race into Brecon!
  8. Hiya I hink you miss the point, it's not a macho thing i.e., 'it's harder for my birds than yours', it's simply locations, different weather patterns as you say .... but whereever you fly, the birds adapt to those conditions, the problem is in 95% of lofts only a few ever get 500.
  9. No I don't think they should have to accept any offer in the same way that you are not forced to make an offer. However I agree 100% that if the seller has made an agreement with you to accept the offer and they renage they should not be allowed to sell in future.... but how would you prove it if the seller denied it? I think that may prove to be a rule hard to enforce
  10. I'm really struggling with the purchase of an ets system. I've read the Unikonv Bricon v Taurus debate and am still not sure. I've asked all for quotes earlier this week and Taurus replied in hours, the other two nothing perhaps the best sellers are not interested in selling to one loft? But what about Tipes does anyone use it. I had a look earlier and I tell you what appeals to me and that is their texting facility. Now before anyone says texting is a waste of money, my aim is long distance if you us ets from Barcelona for example you have to time in on a conventional clock within 10 minutes on a conventional clock. The NFC have sent out a referendum for Tarbes asking if members want to fly the Tarbes international again you will need to time in on a conventional clock as well as ets. My loft is in a field a couple of miles away with absolutely no facilities, waiting there for several days is not an option, however with ets and the text facility that would help me tremendously. Back to Tipes, they don't need you to purchase a mobile to put in your loft, they have their own little gizmo that can send the text, that did appeal. I also read th following:- Of the German fanciers 65% use TIPES approx 3 Times bigger than the Belgium market The Speed of TIPES antenna is 10 times faster than any other ETS system, it can clock with a 4 field antenna 16 Pigeons on the same second! TIPES were the first ETS to be developed in the early nineties an was patent and registered in 1992! Motz Computer are the owners of this patent. TIPES ring MC603 are fully produced automatically and tested (with 5 yrs guarantee) Only TIPES have a clone security system, What means NO clone Ring will work on a TIPES Clock The TIPES antenna have the latest technology of all the ETS systems Also I came across the following http://www.racingpigeon.com/index2.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=109 If you don’t have tipes but know the other systems inside out can any of the ets experts, identify any major differences please?
  11. Didn't know him but when I first got involved in 1971 used to read his articles in the RP , think he used to do a monthly one, used to be full of excellent reading? But he was the main man for auctioning if I remember at the time, along with Charlie Miller and the tow brothers from th Midlands who fell out, th one moving down to near Street I think
  12. They will if you persevere, it's a bit like peanuts it took me a good few weeks to get mine on them but now they love em
  13. Gosh is he only 30 in that pic I would never have believed it :-/?? That's the point I was making to slugmonkey about the different environment to race to!

  20. Just cause he looks like Dumbledore , hey and no quips about me being Hagrid, Roly
  21. I fed last year exactly the same all the way through, the first 3 NFC races to me were under 300 mile with only Tarbes at 556 miles, I had a poor tarbes being 18th section, but at the end of the four races I was 10th in the section averages and my feed was geared for long distance racing not 200/300 mile sprints, I think too much emphasis is put on type of food , far beter to get the balance right in amount of food. Slugmonkey I think we have a problem here in comparing like with like in terms of race environment, I can be living only 60/70 mile away from another loft in this country but racing conditions and environment are totally different. Whereas I think it is of great interest how you race. I think your local conditions are likely to be completley different to ours.
  22. This has been said several times, in my opinion this is an old wives tale too. The reality is if a bird is not genetically capable of flying 500 mile you can feed it caviar and it won't do it! thats why I fly all of them 600 to get rid of the ones that arent capable of it most years I send the whole team on the 5s for 2 reasons the average guy is holding birds back on these races which means there are more points avaible on the race and the second is the 500 has a lot of points on our national ranking system and if a bird is going to be a national champion he has to have the miles and points Yes and you are the rare exception and well done! Again wish I had your birds.
  23. Wish I had your location!
  24. I think about 85% of birds are capable of 500 miles I just dont belive the normal flyer is feeding to get his birds home from there This has been said several times, in my opinion this is an old wives tale too. The reality is if a bird is not genetically capable of flying 500 mile you can feed it caviar and it won't do it! And I disagree with 85%, look at any 500 mile race in your clubs, feds, rarely are there 85% timed in and those birds that have gone to 500 mile are the cream of mos lofts , they've already lost 70% of the loft before thy hit 500
