I read years ago that Athletes were injecting themselves with something (cannot remember the name) , so that they can train harder and longer without weakening their immune system This was banned because of unfair advantage, now the tic bean has this naturally in small amounts and is one of the reasons distance flyers fed them. Hopefully someone will know more on this subject. One thing I will say about pigeon racing especially for novice's is that there are many roads that lead to Rome, meaning if one fancier does things one way, someone down the road will be doing the opposite just as well as that fancier.

This is a good tip, my mate went to Wickes the diy shop. And in there they sold sand bags ( without the sand ). The stitching can be picked easy enough and there you have the new lining for your basket. You may need to used more then one. They cost about 80p each. He got some string the same colour as the sacking and sowed the sacking to the basket. I think he used a bit of glue aswell, they really looked good. He put the sacking over the original old worn sacking.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR?
Dodgy Trapper replied to demolition man's topic in Breeding, Strains & Families
Nothing worse than buying a pigeon that has a good pedigree and when you receive it, it looks rubbish. Before anyone says I know looks don’t mean anything but it is nice to see and handle the pigeon and them make your mind up. At the end of the day whether it’s a good or bad looking pigeon you don’t know. There is only one way to find out if the youngsters are any good and that’s the basket test (flying them). -
What some fantastic looking birds (wish i had the money)

The trouble with understanding eyesign is, they show you 2 hours of video of numbers of top class pigeons and their eyes. But dont show you bad ones, this would help to see the difference. is there something in the way they try to teach you, reason being there is a large percentage of fanciers that dont understand it.(they cant all be thick like me).

Hi, Friend of mine wants to have 2 T3's Serviced by Linell and they are at the Doncaster Show. Question is--- Would there be anyone going there from the Reading (Berkshire) area that would take them for him?.
-
Axe now you mentioned the name rings a bell, that was the person i think that it came from. The parents to the bird i mentioned was a present to my friend about 7 years ago and that was the name.

Can anyone give me any information regarding the Pepperman strain of racing pigeon just that I have never heard of the strain, my friend had a good 500 mile on the day for 3 years running. What is the main colour (he's was a pied)

Don't know how to explain this but here goes, I read somewhere that there was something natural in the tic bean which was the same as what Athletes used to inject themselves with. This helped the athletes immune system stay strong, so they could train hard and not go down with anything. (just what a bird needs when racing 9-10 hours)

Higher paid people in the NHS, Councils and BBC are getting thousands of pounds bonuses Not to mention the other perks. (All paid by the public) Hopefully freedom of information will help us see what people are getting. I don’t want anyone knowing what I earn because its embarrassingly low, we should know what all people earn who work for the government along with bonuses. Bottom line is we all accept it, so why do we moan?.

I read somewhere that it was good for keeping the birds clean (cheap way)

So would it be ok to dip my birds in cider vinegar, if so whats the ratio with water to add. (I am entering a few racers in a show in 3 weeks just thought it may be a good idea to dip them). Cant beleive a small can of harkers spray for the birds in my pet shop is about £9 something!

Regarding the size of a long distance pigeon. I for years always thought the right size was small to medium. Until a fancier friend in our club raced a very large cattryse hen. It was bred by another fancier in the club, he always brought good stock this fancier did. Won something like (if memory is correct) the Federation from Thurso (500 miles) Stonehaven 384 miles (3 weeks before) and the following year won Thurso again only bird on the day. Honestly the size of that pigeon. Its right, its hidden inside.

It's all about opinions, if you have been around long enough you will find that some people do things the opposite to someone else who has been just as successful. Like the comment just made some pigeons develope and improve at different ages.(just like us humans). Like i said if you have a large number of birds you can gamble a little by sending a few further than 300 miles.
-
What people have to remember is some of the big fanciers which many bred around 50 to 100 Y/B birds each year. So over a few years end up with 2 or 3 lofts full of birds They can gamble on say 20, but you must remember going over 300 miles sometime the races are much harder than expected which equals heavy losses. So you fanciers who have small number be on the cautious side. Birds that race (say) 450 miles are good birds but it down to your resources?.
-
Up to 300 miles then rested until the following year Then they will be a year older and wiser and ready to move on to longer distances You can these days race 500 miles with them but my view is they can be handicapped by there age and maybe ruin them. My view is they havent learnt enough at the yearling stage. If they are good enough you will still have them as 2 year olds.
-
Looks a great idea no need to paint the loft regular and will last forever. One question is what are the rules on planning permission. Would you need it?. Is there something about the height and being fixed structure?.
-
Blaz they are very very nice birds (wish they were mine)

Does anyone know all the types of corn that goes into Red Band and the percentages (amounts).
