Although protected, it is recognised that there may be circumstances where other activities or works which could affect thoses species is necessary. To accomodate those circumstances, some of those activities or works may be able to be licenced to allow them to take place. When is a Licence Needed? To ensure that you do not break the law, you must apply for a licence if you propose to do anything that would affect Scottish protected species or their breeding, resting or shelter places in ways which the legislation makes illegal. Is a licence always needed? In many cases it is possible to overcome problems by altering the way you plan to carry out the work, so that you would not need to apply for a licence. This may involve carrying out the work at a particular time of year, or using particular materials or methods of working. However, we strongly recommend that you do not take any action until you have discussed your proposals with Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), a professional Ecologist or the Scottish Government. Am I guaranteed to get a licence? Licences can only be granted where specific legal tests are satisfied. Details of these tests are in the 'Licensing authorities' page or application guidance notes. How do I apply for a licence? First you need to find out who is the appropriate licensing authority to your situation. Both Scottish Government and Scottish Natural Heritage issue licences for Scottish protected species, but for different purposes. For more information, please progress to the 'Licensing authorities' page.

It is an offenc to kill any wild bird in the UK, although an exemption existsfor crows where "if it is to prevent serious damage to agriculture, or to preserve public health/air safety, or to conserve wild birds". Has your friend got such problems and has he made sure that what he is doing would fit into such regulations

no you cant m8, you need a permit to do so, all birds are protected, as far as killing them or disturbing their nests,
-
they must be nesting near by,and they protect their territory, they are worse than hawks m8, look for a tree with a single nest, thats carrion crows, but they like all birds are protected, will send you a pm,

REMBER ALL RING NUMBERS TO BE SENT TO IAN McKAY BY 12 MIDNIGHT TONIGHT THE 30TH. FOR BIRDS BOUGHT TO ENTRE THE PIGEONBACICS 2011 BREEDER BYER. SORRY NO LATE RING NUMBERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AS THE DATE HAS BEEN ON BOTH SALES THREADS .SO COME ON GET THE RING NUMBERS IN. the above was making it clear what the rules were and would be final, so should have been left as it was,and the only acceptance to them could have been dealt with no doubt by IAN according to their merit, such as the bereavement, and if they had been dealt with in this way would have went along without any hassle, now a new time has been given I think we will have to go by this as to change it again would just confuse all, so hopefully we can get this back on track, and underway, as said the rules were clear and any real problems could have been dealt with by Ian, without all the changes, the new ones are IT WILL CLOSE 2ND MAY 12 MIDNIGHT.giving any members that have had a problem an extra 48 hours to get their ring numbers in hope this resolves the problem,
