  1. wow didnt know your birds go for that much. sorry to high jack the thread but how much do the top lines go for? yer a pic would be nice :X
  2. do you guys actually eat your bad racers? is it like wood pigeon? or is it a joke? sorry i sound if i sound abit nieve
  3. :)cheers guys, yer im finding it all very interesting. all the genetics. like kennel club in dogs really.
  4. in america and other places homers where used to teach the falcon to stay above the falconer. if the bird wondered off they would let racer go and the falcon wouldnt be able to catch it as the falcon would have been out of persitions so it teaches the bird to stay above the falconer. im a hawk flyer or austringer, i fly totaly a bird of my fist at what gets up infront of me. normaly a pheasant. i dont go for pigeons with my hawk as he wouldnt stand a chance. i do feed pigeon but only woodpigeon that i shoot as its very good food for the hawk when im not flying him in the moult to help him have strong feathers. hope this answers any douts.
  5. well your right roland, but then again i have never denied not having more interest in bop. flying my gos would win hands down agains flying pigeons. but as i have a choice i thought it would be nice to have a few. my comments of the pere web came thread show where i stand on that subject.
  6. nice setup baz, when i move ill deffo get a good sizes loft and have a few birds i think.
  7. cheers chaz just joined up as rollergosman.
  8. another good read that, maybe there do me as i know theres loads of spars where i live. a coppers is alot bigger than a spar so maybe a good breed. i bet they aint cheap.
  9. http://www.parlorroller.com/images/loftHouseRight.jpg like this? i could fit this in
  10. cheers again freebird, yer im gathing that theres more into it. i thought they would be farly low maintance but looks like i maybe wrong. id like my birds free flight for sure. i was hoping to get about 5 to 8. pluss could us them to help train my dog. as i have a german pointer that finds and flushes pheasant and pigeon i have been told smells very much like pheasant scent. i know alot of dog trainers keep homers to train on but i though if i kept some birds i would rather they be abit more interesting than just a normal homer, so though the tubllers would be good. i could easy fit that on the side of my shed i think.
  11. wow thats more space than i thought would be needed for that many birds.
  12. what is the smallest loft possible and whats the smallest number of birds one could keep. im after just a few rollers or some weird flying breed still looking into it. but dont have the space for a large loft at mo as have another bird taht would get abit upset to say the least lol. could anyone post some pics of there set up if on the compact side of things. cheres atb lee
  13. ha ha wicked birds aint they. proper manuvours, cant see them getting nailed by peres with that agility ;D
  14. fool its ilegal to use whats called a baggie, my goshawk is happy flying down pheasants and rabbits. plus a pigeon is way to fast for a captive bred goshawk. get a life mate i have a real interest in rollers im nt into racing but always fancyed having those types of breeds, it just so happens i like birds of prey too.
  15. middlesex.
  16. oh ok mate fare doo,s. a dilema ill admit.
  17. yer nice aint they blaz, just emailed a fella near me who breeds them. hopefully he will let me pop round and bore him to death with my questions lol. trying to get my sister to get some too.
  18. sorry mate im showing my ignorance here not being a racer, but could they be put in another smaller loft so not aloud to mix or breed with the good birds? thats what i was trying to asertain, how common was it, because i did ask but only a handfull of ppl actually comented taht they had birds tacken. i see it if pigeon men are tacking bird out the wild it just seems such a waste for ppl like me who would rather see them be put to a btter us then left dead in areas that have high populations.
  19. so your saying that a pere comes in everyday and trys to take your birds? wouldnt it have wipped them out within a few months? how many birds have you got? what if you bred some slow flyers or some rollers maybe to go with the racers? wouldnt they attrack the pere isntead of your best racers? asking serouse questions here les, and please keep your hair on mate i aint tryin to start anything even though i really dont agree with what your doing.
  20. cheers freebird a really good read. like them very long primarys on those pigeons.
  21. good aint they.
  22. i agree that its not good that the rspb dont act or speak with you ppl, as it aint good for anywild bop if some members are going out doing there own culling. as its not being organized and dont know how its done so you could be effecting rarer bop like merlins and harriers and my fav goshawks lol. so in my view its not good for you lads, not good for wild bop either. im not all that bothered as i dont keep pigeons yet and havnt witnessed it. the thing is if i did keep pigeons and would like to keep rollers i wouldnt be able to protect against wild bop, infact i wouldnt mind them tacking the odd stock from time to time as i would like to witness it. but what i was trying to find out was could i keep rollers without them being wipped out? an honest asnwer would be nice. i dont mind a few going missing but would it be worth keeping a small number of say 10? or would they all get wipped out before the next breeding season?
  23. attacking each other? all i ask was how bad was it really, and i got told to get stuffed and threatened. all because i enjoy another different past time. narrow minded or what. why dont you lot try and get as much photographic evidance of your pigeons being attacked and log them under a thread for use later. make a thread for just pictures and no woffling to be used later. i cant see how its good for anyone you or the peres if some pigeon lads are going out sorting the birds themself.
