Where has Bart gone??????
-
Boz If you go keep your eyes wide open!!! Many of the sellers dont even race pigeons they just keep a few pairs of lookers and sell there children at the market to the German and English who dont know any better. To be honest you dont see many Belguim or Dutch people buying youngsters there which is some indication, in fact many see as a bit of a joke. A freind of mine bought a pigeon there some seasons ago and when he traced the owner he couldnt believe the man kepted 5 pairs in a garage and the other youngsters he didnt sell went to the local resturant!!!! Andrew Could you list the pigeons actual race results please or send them on a private message. Regards Stuart

He doesnt clean out, he doesnt get up at 6.00 am he doesnt study his birds, he could be bothered to go training today and he didnt make the difference. A lazy flyer is the man who puts garlic in the water for 8 weeks on a monday when the pigeons are racing, the good flyer give them garlic 52 mondays in a year!! Get me drift!! Stu

Once when i was 12 years old i was playing rugby on a saturday morning, it was against Frome college. The same day it was the Farrington Gurnay 2 Bird Open from Penzance which was the last race of the season! I enetered 2 pigeons a Blue Hen and a very gay red pie which was a sion bred by the late Dick Sparey! When i sarted the game we hadnt been able to find out whether the birds were up! As the half time whistle was blown i turned to face my team mates when i seen the red pie cock flying across the field! without even a good bye i ran of the field and headed for my bike next to the changing rooms, i could hear shooting behind me but i just kepted running. 10 minutes later i was home and sat on the trap was that red pied cock. That night i was 2nd behind Vic Preedy by 2 minutes and while i was gutted everybody thought it was a great result for one so young. On the monday my games teacher sat me in front of the whole team and made me give an apology to everyone, afterwards he told me that a County selector was watching and that i had blown my chance. 1 month after that i was picked for somerset and just i running out the manager stopped and said "son keep your on the field and out of the bloody Sky"" That story has stayed with me all my rugby career, even when i signed for Bath Jack Rowell called me the "Pigeon Man from Midsomer Norton" and then asked the groundsman to lock the gates when the game was on!! Hi Lads As it stands today we cannot fly pigeons outside of the UK but this might all change before May, i suppose its down to how the bird flu spreads!!!! Stuart Wilcox

My Dad was very poor and he used to buy all are cloths from the Army and Navy surplus stores! You cant imagine how embarrasing it was going to school dressed as a Japanesse Admiral with high hill sheos and a gas mask! Stuart ;D

The good thing about pigeons is its a combination of everything! Good pigeons flying to a good loft on a good system with good management will be the winner. The problem is you need to keep breeding the good pigeons and that what sets a true champion apart """BREEDING""". : To add i doesnt matter what the system or the pigeon there is now gain without pain and more you put in, the more you read, the more you study your opigeon and write everything down the more the reward!!! Im only a young'un but one of the first bits of advice i had from Englands best ever distance flyers (Fear Bros Clandown) was that a lazy flyer never visits the prize table at the end of the year!!! Hello Bart I hope you dont mind me joining this discussion! I have not long restarted after selling my team at auction and i asked myself the same questions as you did! I looked at what i did right before and what didnt work for me! I beleive the most important thing to me is choice, when i established my team before i visited Bert Hession from Blackpool, he simply put me in a section of 40 ybs and said choose your own, on that 1st visit i choose 2 cocks Champion Pied Producer and Champion White Eyes. Now before that day i would often have birds arrive in a box or would pick up the odd pigeon in an auction! Some have suggested contacting local fanciers but how many of them will let you go home with what you want!! Most will give you there cast offs, its human nature. Going back to Bert Hession if he had sent me 4 down in a box it probaly wouldnt have been that 4 and there were pigeons in that section that i didnt like. So my advice would be go to a fancier or stud that will give you choice, take an experienced friend if needed but choose what you like and what you are comfortable working with because Pigeon Racing is a tough sport and as any tradesman you need to enjoy your tools that you craft. Another thing pigeon families that won yesterday will still win tomorrow, dont pay though the noise for pigeons just because they are trendy, : so long as they are from a winning line and you like them they are worth your dedication!!!
