Boxes Pr Perches For Young Bird Loft?
chrisbonnie replied to chrisbonnie's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
so, perches like this or boxes like this oh, and whats the darkening section on them boxes for? -
my dad just got his new loft built today (from Park Hall Timber Products, a full report to follow ) so we now have to kit out both the young bird and yearling sections the season gone was his first season, so he only had a small 10x8 loft, split in 2, stock in one section, all the young b irds in the other, the new loft has 4 sections though, so there's more scope to play around whats the best set up for the youngters, perches, boxes? what would you chaps advise?
-
ok, i get you but back to the original question how do i tell the feathered buggers apart early on?
-
the new loft is getting built on thursday, and it'll have 4 sections, so i can seperate the yb's we've made up some boxes, but if we're gonna go widowhood, ill have to make widowhood ones whats celibacy btw? i know what it means obviously, but in terms of a racing system ,what is it?
-
how's it going lads this will only be my dads second season racing now last year everything was just natural, so nothing fancy but this year, we've been thinking of trying to race the youngsters on widowhood. the only things im worried about is, i want to race both hens and cocks. now, another thing, im finding it very awkward telling the hens from cocks apart when young, is there a way to tell besides the obvious mating rituals? any help would be great lads.

here's a good article i came across today while searching for info on high carb pigeon diets article here
-
just wondering lads the day before we basket our birds, would it be more beneficial to feed a HIGH CARB food to the pigeons? or am i totally wrong, should it be a high protein mix
-
all good point David i was just wondering, i sent off 3 random throat swabs to a pigeon vet here in Ireland only yesterday, if they come back negative, should i bother treating for anything at all then?
-
you use it yourself Tony?
-
seeing as its about time to start treating our birds for this that and the rest, whats a good tried and tested product for Trichomonas? i heard a belgian guy on a dvd say he uses some stuff called "ritsol, or ritzsol" any ideas on this? any help would be great lads, its my first breeding year, and i dont want to leave any stone unturned

there's actually an auction going on this minute here in Ireland with from a Lincoln fancier, Dave Atkin i believe
-
yay or nay? ive been to one recently, i didnt buy, but i was tempted i was just wonder what peoples general opinion of them are are the auctions an excuse to get rid of "has been" pigeons, or are they really selling the pigeons in their prime?
-

Park Hall Timber Products (Lofts)
chrisbonnie replied to chrisbonnie's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
thats like the one my dad has ordered the guys are even coming over to Ireland to build it impressive stuff -
park hall timber products, just wondering if anybody has heard of them, or eve dealt with them before? my father just ordered an 18x8 loft off of them today. just wondering what fellow forumites previous experiences of them are cheers Chris

funny this thread has come up my dad is the one with the pigeons, but ive a keen enough interest in it he only bought some birds recently from a chap here in Ireland who wins his fair share of races, and he was saying to my dad he only trains his birds twice, or at a push 3 times per week, never anymore he reckons it burns them out my dad is in his first year of racing pigeons, and has been training his every day bar friday and only last week he got one of his birds home late from a race, and the little bugger was so tired, he couldnt even tuck his wings into his body, he literally dragged them through the stall trap since last saturday, its after taken him until pretty much today (saturday) to return to some what normal i wonder if 4/5 days a week training is too much for them? you wouldnt see a marathon runner out running every day coming up to a big race, its food for thought isnt it

Timing Your Training With Bricon Ets
chrisbonnie replied to chrisbonnie's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
yeah, the rep registered the rings to the birds, so all the rings are on the birds now so its just a matter of turning the ets on in the morning, and when the birdsd arrive home, when they hit the mat, it takes their time then make sure you delete the training history before you bring your clock up on friday for the race? -
how's it going lads i just bought my dad a bricon ets system for his birthday today, just one wee thing his birds go training with a guy every day, so how what does he need to do to check who is first home? is it a matter of just turning the system on and thats it, or does he need to set up a training log or something? thanks in advance lads
-
hi lads the question is for my father basically, he's started to race here in Ireland just this season, his results have been "ok", but obviously, being new, he has plenty to learn he was wondering though, regading stock birds how would you go about buying birds from the continent, i.e holland, belgium, germany, and of course britain any help would be great lads cheers Chris

quick question lads my dad is starting to darken his young birds for the first time the only thing is, he has a lack of space in his loft, so the yearlings are getting darkened down as well is this at all harmful to the yearlings?
-
