Trouble is,the people who write these books, are useally being funded by the copanys selling these mirricle products.Just vaccinate them with a live vacciene, once a year and swollen joints and dead in the shell babies, will be a distant memorie.Deb

Better to vaccinate for para typhoid. Cheaper and much more effective

Deb

Does no one treat for coxci cancer or worms prior to breeding ?
-
I have been useing Ivomec and now Noromectin on my birds for years, for worms and lice. But I am hearing that there can be fertilety problems caused by this.I would love to hear your views on this. Also what alternatives are there. Deb

Its that time of year to start treaing the birds, prior to breeding season.I keep hearing about the three in one mix ie cancer coxci etc does anyone use these, are they any good? Deb

Thanks for the advice. They are split up,I have five 8x8 sections, with aroun ten birds in each, with access to a bath and avery 24 7.The problem is,these two cocks are chasing the other cock birds around, hence the messy feet.I realise that it is not bumble foot, but it was the only title I could think of.Perhaps I should have put pooy feet. Thanks Deb

Since going from deep litter,to cleaning out each day.I am finding that some of the birds, mainly cock birds that spend time driving on the floor. Are getting clogs of poo on there feet. The worst two,I have stood in a bucket of worm water, which has cleaned them, but left them with swollen toes, which seem to collect much as soon as they are back in the loft.If anyone has any ideas,I would appreciate them,as I dont want to go back to deep litter. Yes Lindsay, that is exactly what I am looking for.The clay ones I have, are now quite pitted and are taking longer each year to clean. The plastic look easy to keep clean, but I wasn't sure if they woulbe heavy anough or suitable for nest felt, like the ones shown directly below the plastic nest bowls. Thanks for the replys you two. Deb

I put a post on asking about the solid plastic nest bowls that boddy ridewood are selling. As mine are clay and starting to get a bit past it.I have tried the Belgium plastic and found them to be a bit light.9prone to tipping)I need about thirty,so I wanted to know if anyone has tried them and if they were suitable for nest felts,or would they slide about. There must be someone who has tried these,as b ridewood don#t seem to be selling the clay ones any more. I scrape the floors each day, five sections about fifteen minutes. The throw down a hand full of cat litter in each, which drys the floor completely. Then once a week,I scrape all the perches, nest boxes and floors and spray with jays fluid. Then jet wash the averys.Which takes about a hour and a half. Also I soak the drinkers and feeders in bleech once a week. Deb.
