  3. Very strange goings on !! Two of My Widowers dropped their 1st Flight after sitting 2 & 4 Days respectively on their secong Round of eggs . No lights in My case . I have never had this before . They seem to be holding their second flights however . Would be interested in comparing notes as the season progresses ? Steve ...
  4. From Your description I am wondering if the Hen has become egg-bound . Is She sitting eggs already which would rule this out ? This does not explain the swollen eyes . Unfortunately there are many ailments which could give similar symptoms the swollen eyes could indicate Ornithosis . Please try to include more details .

    Droppings

Hello ... Just wondering how the forum members dispose of their birds droppings ? I have a Friend takes it fot His allotment but Im always looking for a Plan B !! Steve ....
  9. brilliant !! Never knew the origin of that one . Steve . Happy 2007 .
  10. I agree Jeremy ..long term use of any medication is a step backwards but if You look at the length of Breeding season mine only receive Nystan twice or 3 times Maximum . I keep my pellets in the house in a plastic dustbin also. You are bang on pointing these issues out . As long as the Pellets are quickly eaten up there will be no problems . Steve .
  11. Nystan (Nystatin) is for Human consumption (thrush). Best purchased in Spain , It eliminates any Fungal Infections in Pigeons. Down side to Pellets is they absorb moisture quickly & require keeping in the house . This is the reason I make sure the birds eat them ALL UP as soon as I put them in the trough ...not hanging around all day . Fed this way You are fine .
  12. I have used Blue Smarties with good results but I heard they were discontinued . Try RECEPTAL INJECTION both Cock & Hen .. Wheat Germ Oil has worked before & last Season a Vet Friend of mine mixed up a fertility Oil but I dont know the ingredients....this Kickstarted an 11 year old Cock for me .... If You are still stuck I will try to find out the composition of the Oil Mix.. Send Me a P.M Steve .
  13. Probably better if you concentrate on one method or the other....
  14. Birds origin First. Good Loft second. Feeding & System third . Without First its a hard slog...
  15. Never had either of these problems.. Droppings are perfect all year round , Poultry pellets are for the Human Food Chain & therefore have to be High Standard , pigeon pellets may be different . Its probably getting the balance between pellets/mix/peas right . Once monthly I soak the pellets in Nystan to keep any fungal infection down.
  16. Telephone Number follows. B.O.C.M. (Pauls). Animal Feed Manufacturers, Bamber Bridge. Preston. 01772-695200. All The Best , Steve .
  17. I dont have the Address but I will do my best to find out Tomorrow & I will post it on this site , I buy mine from poultry suppliers locally or You could try Farmers Auctions etc.. Keep them in a dustbin when You open the bag as they attract moisture. Look out for fungal spores during damp weather .
  18. I leave mine on peas 80 % , pellets 20% as I dont like my youngsters to fly until 6 weeks before the 1st race .
  19. I will try to clarify my earlier posting. I feed Vesele Laga Kweekstart mix to the Breeders. 12 pair stock . 3 Handfulls or a scoop in a trough on floor . Birds eat this heartily . Have a cup of tea . Next same amount of Tasmanian Maples ....never from the farm as this is one source of Salmonella infection ....I know this from tests . Do some work in the loft for 10 minutes or so . Add 2 scoops of pellets . Top up trough before leaving for work with peas. Always replace Grit /minerals daily. Make sure drinking water is served luke warm. I have fed this way for years & always breed Sound , Winning Youngsters.
  20. They are probably the same Jeremy. Pellet reared young grow on quickly but care is neede to get the weight off later when you need to get them in the air. Steve .
  21. No Breeders Pellets are the ones I use by the firm Pauls.. I feed after a race in a trough. They should be £4.50 to £5.00 a bag. You wills eee the quality of youngsters reared this way. 1/ 3 handfull of Breding Mix . 2/ 10 minutes later same amount of Tamanian Maples . when that is polished off . Fill the trough with the pellets . I feed the Stcok bird 4 times a day this way & there is no wastage . Where abouts are you situated ..Pauls have a factory near Preston . Best Wishes for Christmas to all site users, Steve .
  22. (LOL)!!!!
  23. Poultry Breeders Pellets without medication are the best in my experience. They contain everything .
  24. Very Best Wishes to Yourself & Your Family Bill.. You have been a Great Pal... Hope Tony & Yourself have another Season like 2006 next Year. Steve & Family .
  25. I poor a small pot over about 2 kilo of seed/depurative & feed still wet, but I am looking at the product Primalac which is more appropriate as it is Avian Specific ... Hope this helps . Steve.
