  1. I wouldn't be without, it's the only grit/minerals I give my birds. The birds will eat it everyday.....pick your days!!! I'm only paying about £10 for a big tub, and it's worth every penny.
  2. No problem big man. Just voted
  3. Paul, More than half these performances would have been better if it hadn't been for other loft mates. I always update my loft management system this time of the year, and it wasn't until I added this years results that I realised just HOW good they were producing. I was obviously well aware of the Fed toppers, but didn't realise how big the list had grown until I saw it in black & white. Colin.
  4. Thanks Paul. I haven't been floating their eggs, but might consider it for next season. This year they were paired to different mates, with the cock being paired to a new hen I introduced and in the very 1st nest they produced one of my Federation winners. In fact this very pigeon returned the two weeks previous to top the Fed but came with other loft mates that were hens......say no more!!
  5. Now now Ian, that's just a bit too far
  6. Cheers mate, not a bad pair at all. Still young enough to continue breeding for a few years yet.
  7. You should know, my birds go all funny when they try to cross water That extra few miles might make a big difference
  8. I'm sure most of us are all busy working away on our 2011 pairings. I also make good use of the dark nights by updating my loft records, which brings me on to something I'd like to share with the members. I bought a pair of Janssens from Dave Atkin of Lincoln in 2006 from his very successful Wall, Lunt, Green & Galley bloodlines. Below is a list of the performances they are responsible for in just four years breeding in my stock loft - 1st Club, 1st Fed Winner of SHU Centenary Medal 2007 1st Club, 1st Fed 1st Club, 1st Fed 1st Club, 1st Fed 1st Club, 3rd Fed 2nd Club, 8th Fed 3rd Club, 3rd Fed 3rd Club, 15th Open, 21st Combine 3rd Club, 15th Fed 3rd Club, 20th Fed 4th Club, 6th Fed 4th Club, 10th Fed 4th Club, 22nd Fed 4th Club, 38th Fed 5th Club, 7th Fed 5th Club, 28th Fed 6th Club, 15th Fed 7th Club, 24th Fed 9th Club, 21st Fed 12th Club, 35th Open 22nd Open They have only ever been paired to three different pigeons, all producing prize winners. To say I'm delighted with their record is an understatement. What do the members think? Colin.
  9. Just noticed that Celtic are beating Aberdeen 9 - 0 !!!! How bad are the Dons when the Mighty Gers can beat Celtic easily at Porkhead Can see them getting 10......quite a few penalties though. Wonder if Lennon will complain about the refs dodgy decisions
  10. Still 2 - 3 flights for my darkies. The natural ones are looking the business
  11. Loft is looking good mate. All the best for 2011. Colin.
  12. Jolly, who is jolly????? Perhaps a name or even a picture would help, as I've already been called a 'faceless wonder'......fantastic!!!!! Why would you ask such a question? but it's really nice of you to care so much. I did clearly state in previous posts that this isn't about my performances, it has always been about the criteria, nothing else. Hope that makes things a bit clearer Colin.
  13. Stuart, The only frustration I had was not knowing the criteria for judging the fancier of the year, it seemed to be a secret, as it was asked at the last AGM. I didn't for one single minute think I was automatically going to win it....not something I've even hinted on, not now or even in the past. Don't think that statement was appropriate Stuart. I appreciate it's only your opinion. All the best to you for next season. Cheers.
  14. Sorry, I missed your last two comments. We all know that in life if your face fits it can help you big time, pigeons included. As for 'in a gang', check back the posts, I wasn't the member that originally made this statement.
  15. From the very first posting I have never looked for justification with the Feds decision, or who was in contention, all I was asking was for the criteria to be stated, which it has been done. As far as I'm concerned that's that, no sour grapes behind this keyboard. Roll on 2011. ATB PS. Sent you a pm.
  16. Are you telling me it's true? It's not based on Fed performances only, so thats immaterial. The criteria has already been clarified in an earlier post. Not bad though for a small back garden fancier. Anyway, it's not about my performances, there are other top flyers in Central Fed. Thanks anyway.
  17. My mistake, it was only the 3 times, still outstanding. Now that we all know that it's judged over Federation & National racing makes matters much clearer. Some of us don't have enough birds to compete the way some fanciers do.....but that's up to the individual. How would it be if a fancier tops the Fed 10 weeks on the trot, but doesn't compete with the National, does that mean he doesn't stand a chance in getting fancier of the year? It could happen....... Colin.
  18. Yes, congratulations to all that picked up prizes last night, hope the night went well? It's a real shame that a prize list isn't posted to the members to let them all know who has won what and if there is a trophy to be collected. One fancier is still actually waiting on a phone call to let him know if he has anything to pick up......bit late now! What does it matter if it was sprint racing? what has that got to do with it? In our Fed we have 9 Ob races & 6 Yb races, that's a total of 15 races How many of these races are over 200 miles? I can only count 4, not many over an entire season. Anyway, here are my results from these 4 races over 200 miles - Newark - 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th & 8th Fed. Leicester 1 - 1st, 4th, 12th, 24th & 28th Fed. Leicester 2 - 6th, 20th, 23rd & 32nd Fed. Maidstone Open - Didn't send as I had other commitments. Not bad results in my eyes.......what was your point? If the criteria includes National racing then that's certainly acceptable by me, and I would expect by all the other members. That was always the question, "What is the criteria", which now seems to be a bit clearer. Seems a shame that the fanciers who clearly concentrate on their Fed racing will never be considered for this top prize. I'm sure there is a large percentage of the Fed members who either don't send to the Nationals or are even a member. I like that one, "Faceless wonder" behind a keybord slagging people off. Sorry, I'm the one that has my face on my profile, where's yours???? I wouldn't type anything that I wouldn't say to someones face, you should know me better than that. Anybody that knows me well enough knows that I've only got ONE face. Don't know where the sour grapes comes from, that beats me that one. Only just last year a fancier in my Club topped the region 4 times (that's four) with the SNFC, which I thought was outstanding, plus he put up some very good Fed performances, and he didn't get fancier of the year. Is that not bewildering or what???? Sorry about the helping out a bit more, but I have a life away from pigeons, which I don't intend to change. Pigeons aren't my life, obviously with some people they are. Yip, I think we've all got to try harder next year, it would be rather boring if we didn't........why stand still?? Colin.
  19. I'm not taking anything away from his results, I'd be one of the first to shake a fanciers hand if they put up great results......some people can't do that. This isn't just about me, there are other fanciers in the Fed put up great results........it's the criteria that has to be clarified. I get more satisfaction competing well in the Fed with my small team of birds, sending on average 20-30 birds per week, sometimes less. Colin.
  20. It is sad Mick, but that's life mate as we all know. Thanks for the comments They will certainly never get to me, there's far more important things in life As far as pigeons are concerned, I want to continue enjoying them to the max. Colin.
  21. Thanks mate. If it's Fed fancier of the year then it has to be Fed racing only, if National racing is included then that's acceptable, but it's not every Fed member who races the Nationals. I too would be interested in the results of the winner, at least the members of the Fed can use these results as a benchmark for the seasons ahead. Colin.
  22. Thanks for the comments John, they're much appreciated. My face obviously doesn't fit, but in saying that there were other fanciers in the Fed this year put up some great performances. So although I'm bewildered by the decision, it's not just about my results, there are others. Colin.
  23. That's a good way to do it. How do the points work mate? positions etc.... Colin.
  24. I believe this question was asked at the last AGM, and to my knowledge there has been no response. I could be wrong
