With regards to the roof, obviously the goal is for your homing pigeons to return as soon as possible to their pigeon loft and not loiter on the roof. With this is mind, aflat roof is not a good idea. Many fanciers also place pigeon deterrents such as bird spikes on their roofs.|The loft should obviously be watertight and insulated to negate temperature extremes in summer and winter. The roof should have a steep slope to discourage roosting (you want them back in the loft as soon as possible, not loitering on the roof).
