  1. I didn't say anywhere in what i wrote that our pigeons were sick i was stating that some fanciers i no race pigeons that are not fit to race!! we got the young bird average this season, 2 1st feds and were 2nd in the fed averages! The point you make on not feeding or feeding very light the racers on a friday is a valid one & for must of us common sense, To us it's a big no no, we feed them as much as they want corn, dari, rice, linseed sometimes peanuts at longer races, We all have our different systems & beliefs alot of people say you can't win with fat pigeons because of them being unfit but with alot of training fat burns off & converts to muscle that's the way i have always raced & raced well!!
  2. i blame alot of young bird losses on respiratory problems such as ornithosis, a pigeon can't think straight with a head full of snot, 10/15 years ago pigeons handled orni well and raced with it but with people using alot of respiratory antibiotics eg doxy/tylan, erythromycin and not using them proper such as partial doses & not using the prescribed dose respiratory problems are alot more dangerous for our pigeons, how often do you hear your pigeons sneeze, rattling on & panting, blinking after exercise also scratching the same eye on thier wing sometimes causing it to go yellow with first clear then purulent liquid flowing out of the eye! i no alot of people who race pigeons that are black wattled sometimes with runny eyes clearly infected with a bad respiratory problem and your pigeons are in the same basket as them!! i suppose that's what pigeon racing is all about now "the never ending fight against diseases"

  8. they should go shorter tomorrow with the upcoming national from maidstone if not maybe half your team
  9. We have had the same problem for years, tests always come back with ornithosis (Chlamydiosis), No antibiotics work apart from a 40 day course of doxycycline which by the time you finish the birds are ill with the length of time from the antibiotic and if they get over that when you put your birds back into the basket they catch it back so it's a waste of time treating them. I think the misuse and overuse of antibiotics are the cause of a virulent form of chlamydiosis therefore is a BIG problem now and is the main cause of young bird loses in my opinion We only use antibiotics if we have a big problem and don't give them willy nilly week in week out, i was told from a vet that enrofloxacin (baytril) is one of the worst drugs you can give pigeons and in the long run using it without guidance from a vet is asking for untold trouble. We haven't used antibiotics all season up to now and have most points in the club so maybe we can race our birds without them?
