Medications Available Any one of a group of medications called nitro imidazoles are effective against trichomonads. There are four commonly in use: 1. Dimetradazole - The common brand name here is Emtryl, available as a water-soluble powder. Dimetradazole was the first nitro imidazole available and is still an effective drug, although trichomonad resistance to it in some areas is a problem because it has been used for the longest. It must be used with care as it has a narrow safety margin. Overdose leads to a reversible loss of balance and coordination and, in high doses, death. The medication can interfere with sperm production in cocks, leading to a temporary infertility, and so is not recommended for use during breeding. The usual dose is 1 teaspoon (3 grams) to 4½ - 8 litres of water. Lower dose rates should be used in stock birds feeding youngsters and during hot weather when water intake increases and evaporation occurs from drinkers, increasing the concentration of the medication. 2. Carnadazole - The common brand name here is Spartrix. It is only available in tablet form. It has a wide safety margin and is very useful for individual bird dosing, particularly youngsters in the nest. The dose is one 10-mg tablet daily. 3. Metronidazole - The common brand name is Flagyl. This is available as a water-soluble syrup and as tablets in a variety of strengths. It is very economical, with the tablets being useful to dose individual birds. Individual birds are given ¼ of a 200-mg Flagyl tablet once daily. Flagyl syrup is water soluble and is given at the dose of 5 - 10 ml per litre but is very sugary and not very palatable to the birds. 4. Ronidazole - This is available as a water-soluble powder under a number of brand names world-wide, including Ridsol-S, Turbosole, Tricho-Plus and Ronivet. The usual strength used is 10%. The dose at this strength is ½ teaspoon per litre. Weaker preparations are available but the birds need to be treated longer with these. The drug is very bitter so preparations stronger than 10% tend to be unpalatable to the birds. It has a very wide safety margin and is safe to use during breeding, racing and moulting. World-wide, ronidazole is the current medication of choice to treat canker. However, in some countries it is not available for use in pigeons, authorities being concerned that resistant organisms may develop. As the drug is used in food-producing animals such as pigs, its use is reserved for these. In any canker-control program, it is often best to rotate between at least two of these medications in order to decrease the chance of a resistant trichomonad strain developing. Currently, ronidazole-based preparations are used as the primary treatment because of their effectiveness and wide safety margin, but it is a good idea to swap to one of the other available drugs every third or fourth treatment. Well done Ian, been watching closely and hugely impressed by the level of hard work you've put into the whole thing from the birth of the idea to the carrying out of the concept, congratulations on an excellent sale. If people are so fed up with them why even post about them as someone said the other day, any advertising is good advertising, especially if its free. What's the bets if people can't get stuff elsewhere they will use B&R no matter how crap they may be, they might not have heard of them before reading here either. Think on and give them a wide berth might be best? :-/

I've got an excellent PC system here going spare, cost me 2k to get it made for me by Dell a year or so ago. Was going to put it on ebay but can't be bothered with the amount of nigerian bidders on there. ??) It doesn't eat or drink so if there is ever a needy fancier looking for a good PC I'll have it here as I prefer laptops myself.

One of the best posts in a long time Vallance, sorry you had to make it, and yes I will certainly be keeping out of threads if they are of no concern to me. What you'll see with the last debarcle is that after invitation by Bob (lenwadebob) all I did was firstly defend the entire couriers system by saying that most carry boxes (which they do), then secondly I defended the fancy by saying the courier should cover the cost of boxes, (I stick by that), then thirdly I defended JMCouriers by saying quite openly that they deliver at a fantastic rate and to expect free boxes from them as well was perhaps a bit too much to ask? (That was a compliment on the excellent pricing structure they have, one we could not match that's for certain). I guess my honesty annoys some people because from what I read I've said nothing bad at all, quite the opposite. :-/ Perhaps your right that couriers should stay out of threads that are courier related but isn't that defeating the purpose? I remember posts last year when people were complaining that they could not contact ABC or D courier with a complaint yet when one decides to come on and speak out they get attacked to a level that is shameful on the fancy. Gemma and the team here do a fantastic job and I've told her as much, those who critisise are the same ones who heckle their club or union meetings on a regular basis, they'll mouth off but you ask them to 'be on the committee' they shy away. As I said in the last thread, if you don't like what I or anyone else has to say then fine, just agree to disagree as I do, there is absolutely no need to attack on a personal level. :-/

I challenged Bob on showing me WHERE I disrupted this thread or ANY OTHER THREAD for that matter youngzimmy and he could not stand up to that challenge and I'm certain you won't either. :-/ The math is simple, if you don't like what I have to say then don't read my posts, or don't comment on them, just look at the name of the poster and swiftly move on, I do with some of the posters here, its easy.

Unlike some on here Pigeon Tracker actually put thier money where thier mouth is and are at least £12.50 cheaper than the couriers commented on and we only carry birds nothing else, if we can do it from one end of the Country to the best part of the other then so can anyone else. ??) What's wrong with pointing that out? :-/ Someone just explained how JMCouriers manage to keep thier prices so low and I applaud them for being able to do so, I'd even use them myself for my own birds because they could get them to me cheaper than it costs me to get or send them so there's no critisism where it isn't due, even if you and a select few others try to make it out otherwise. I can confidently go over every single one of my posts and show I NEVER critisice where it isn't due. It always seems the same with the courier posts, Pigeon Tracker stand up for the fancy and get slated for it. :-/ Why the hell do you think Scotland is having so many problems getting their birds at the moment and having to pay so much extra than they did with us last year? Its because of certain people and their constant big mouths slating Pigeon Tracker, for what? standing up for the fancy and being honest about the prices the likes of the Scottish are having to pay? It can't be for the quality of service that's for sure because that's one department we don't fall short in, even our arch enemy bigda can't say anything about that. ;D Pigeon Tracker are passionate about the fancy and looking after them but for some unfathonable reason some just can't see the wood for the trees and are spoiling it for the rest of the fancy who we know for a fact are strugging to get their birds in or out and having to pay over the odds; talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. :-/ Gemma (grizzle_hen) has politely asked me via p.m not to post in courier topics because she recognises that if Pigeon Tracker dare post a factual comment its like a red rag to a bull with a few select idiots who are hell bent on spoiling it for others by trashing good constructive threads so I'll respect her wish whether I like it or not. :B
