  3. I see there is a sale at Tipton on Sunday of Jos Thone's. Not sure how much they wil make as the Auction prices have been down lately, suppose it might have something to do with the current economic climate.
  4. Hi All, I wonder if any of you young bird experts can advise me. Due to my shift change for next year my youngsters will have to be put out in the mornings before I go to work in the afternoon. For years I have always had mine out in the afternoon/evening and always after 2p.m. What I am asking is it more risky letting them out in the morning, and could anyone offer any advice on the matter. Also my Darkness youngsters (first time on it last year) took ages to get into the air, even after changing the food, any suggestions would be appreciated
  5. Mark de Cock has a sale tomorrow, anybody know much about him or his birds. One of my club mates is going over to have a 'look' and has offered to take me over for a Sunday dinner time pint. Did not know if it was worth going over
  6. I read on another site that Walter Docx is hardly known by the local flyer, I have heard some good performances by the Docx birds but also some howlers. You pay your money............ Clubmate went to the sale, there were a few having a moan because not much information was put in the BHW regarding the birds and you could only find out on the day
  7. We have the prize night in mid November sharing it with another club, 3 meetings and thats it, sorry to go on about the good old days but 20 odd years ago we filled the local Hotel, 3 course dinner the lot with about 150 people, we are lucky to get 25 now. Sign of the times
  8. Any idea whats different with the onduline roofing, I am deciding whether to get a tiled roof loft or one with an onduline roof for next season from T Ellis and Sons. Did not know if there was an advantage with onduline or not
  9. Utopia would be being in a club with a some off this site, it would be great if I had you lot for clubmates and pjc was right as he has done well previous years and not being in the 'click' is the other crime he has committed, although I forgot to mention one did stick a note through his door asking will he be racing his Breeder/Buyer at the end of the season...........Nice
  10. I have mate who lives about 20 miles from me, he has been having a tough time as he wife has been diagnosed with what can be said as a terminal illness. He is working 12 hours shifts as he has to do this to support his wife, and he has some social services support to help him out. He has been unable to train his youngsters because he cannot fit it in. For the last 3 weeks I have been taking his youngsters for a 25 mile toss, as not one of his so called clubmates have not even offered any help to him they even pass his house!!! The woman who helps out even got her husband to take them a few miles to get them started. I have clocked up about 700 miles in the past fortnight training the youngsters and he managed 3rd on Saturday. A really nice couple but they do not even get a phone call from anyone in the club. Words fail me what I think of them.
  11. I put this post on to see what flyers think in general, what actually got my back up last weekend was that for the first time this season I clocked 5 in (usually a couple) as I thought I was in with a shout for once(which I was) the comment I had from some of the other flyers was that I had crossed over to the dark side with the weekly fed toppers I just wanted a second opinion from everyone on the forum which has proved an emotive subject. Thanks for all the replies
  12. Just like to add I will be still racing against these guys, I am double clubbed with 2 different Feds, I have had Fed cards this year against them so I have no complaints, if I get a decent one in the club I know I have a squeak in the Fed. And I clocked 5 in this weekend!!!
  13. We are getting to the end of our Old Bird season and things came to a head at the weekend mainly because we have 3 fanciers in one of the clubs I am in putting 6 birds in their clock every week and in some cases the first 18 positions are taken by them. After a heated debate the 4 other members have said they are flying in other clubs for the young bird season and leaving the remaining 3 or 4 to fight it out amongst themselves. I would point out that these flyers are regulars in the Fed top 10 every week. Just really wanted to know has this happened or is happening in your club? Any solutions you have to this etc. A novice did join the club at the start of the year but has now joined another club I think on the advice of others to give himself a chance.
  14. Thanks for all the replies, looks like I am going for the Kipp and Son birds from Frank Sheader I am going to order 12 youngsters for next season to start me off on the distance trail.
  15. I am interested in getting some of the Super Carreras birds, could anyone on the forum tell me anything about them and where best to buy them from. Also one of my club mates has just bought in some Kipp and Son distance birds from Frank Sheader I am in the dark about these any info would be appreciated
  16. I think its down to the Loft Manager who runs the loft, he knows the birds people sat at home do not. I noticed on another website that one chap had a Cooreman 'sprinter' in the race yesterday and that got back so it points to Jeremy's loft management skills to get them to home
  17. Just an update, after a couple of phone calls from someone in the club they have now said they will send the deposit(£50) back to him. As was mentioned on here they could have sent him anything. The same chap who has spoken to them has also got 6 squakers booked with a well known Black Country Stud and has promised delivery within 7 days. With the offers he has had now puts him up to 32 for racing and puts £100 quid back in his pocket!! So I think some good has come out of a bad expierience.
  18. I know they are registered on another site(guess) but it just makes my blood boil. He had ordered 12 y.b and was hoping to have about 30 so its quite a large proportion of his team. Just had a text from my mate to say acouple of top boys will breed him 6 or 8 between them so I think the local lads will rally round.
  19. We have a lad in our club who has just restarted after a break for a few years, he ordered some youngsters way back last September and sent a deposit. He rang the fancier after christmas to give himself an idea when they would be ready. About a month ago he then telephoned the fancier to enquire how the birds were coming along, the guy seemed very vague but said he was ringing them that week. He rang again yesterday and spoke to the fancier concerned and seemed unable to give him a straight answer saying they should be ready by now. Then came the excuses like he had hawk strikes, lost his telephone number etc everything except a straight answer. Personally I think he has sold the birds or has forgotten about him. Just think its really terrible to treat someone this way, and to a chap who has come back to the sport, he was told at the time he was the first to book. Supposed to be a decent partnership but they do not even return his calls.
  20. I know of a fancier whose birds settled on his fence which he paid over a £1000 for(the fence) his neighbour built a pagoda just 2 inches from the fence and the birds have tried to land on it. The neighbour goes round next door and looses it and grabs the fancier by the throat and threatens to kill the birds if they come on his property, police have been involved and i believe things have calmed down, but the fancier is now planning to move because of threats and visits by the council put down to the neighbour from hell. Just goes to prove what nutters that are about.
  21. I think the MNFC needs to get their act together the seem to drift from mistake to mistake, and when something does go wrong it seems their write ups in the BHW & RP are written by Alistair Campbell telling everyone that things are really rosy when clearly they are not. Its no wonder that more specialist channel clubs are being formed to avoid going with these bigger clubs.
  22. Heard from a mate of mine who lives in Nuneaton, a flyer in Nuneaton was phoned by the secretery of the MNFC at 8.00 on Sunday morning to tell him he had won the Old Hens race from Cherbourg. Loads of fanciers have been ringing him up to congratulate him including the local committee member of the MNFC, he has found out today that he is now fourth according to the website. It now says they have filtered out all the hens now and this is an updated result. But what a killer to be told by the Sec. you had won the race
  23. Sent them drawings last year for a loft which they did not reply to, phone calls not returned a generally not very helpful. I noticed at the Telford show last year nobody was on their stand just leaflets, bought elsewhere.
  24. I always give the opportunity of the fancier who actually bothers to stamp them or an address ring to give them a call. Is anyone else out there gifted like me to have all these youngsters are off Fed and Combine winners grace your loft with there presence because the replies I get seem to be the same. Its always the case that they have no car to come and pick birds up or they are a pensioner or unemployed. What I don't like is the bad attitude some have and make out its your fault ringing up in the first place.
  25. I agree with Stan that they tried to paper over the cracks and put as much spin on it like the current Government would do. I know a lot of flyers were really hard hit by the Falaise race, and have vowed not to send with them ever again. I spoke with a flyer who had a large team in nearly all winners with the result of birds reported in Devon, Wales and anywere else you would care to mention. He reckons it will be 2 to 3 years again before he is back up to strength. I sent 6,raced every week and fit as fiddles with plenty of experience, still waiting for 3, anyway enough said.
