Hatchling (3/8)

  1. Hi, I have just bought a 10x8 loft (2ft Corridor) for next years youngsters, was wondering how many this would be suitable for?? also for years I have never let my youngsters out in the mornings I would be able to from next year, is there any pro's and con's about having them out in the morning. Replies appreciated.
  2. Hello, I have been geting over a stroke, and have been told to cut things down. Which system would you suggest would be best to race on as I have limited movement in my left side, I was thinking towards widowhood as I have been on roundabout but it does keep me busy and I struggle with it any ideas? Thanks
  3. Got 40 early March (darkness) youngsters still quite happy to sit on the loft and walk around the garden, anybody got any tips to on the feeding to get them airbourne. They get about a quarter of an ounce of diet in the morning and an ounce of Dark Plus in the evening. Thanks all.
  4. Forgot to mention I did know about Amino Acids but what I was trying to get at why this Red type as I had not of it before cos' me mate thinks its the best thing since sliced bread, or so he was told!!! Thanks for the replies so far and to Wiley for the breakdown of what the Amino's do. Mick
  5. Been round to a mates today as he has been over to Belgium, showed me a couple of plastic bottles containing Red Amino Acid, I have never heard of this before has anyone else? The equivalent I have used I suppose would be Zell Oxygen but never heard of this before.
  6. Some of Louis Cooreman sprint family have Camiel Cardon blood in them.
  7. For price I would agree about Blakes, I had asked for a couple of quotes for a 10x8 stock pen with a box aviary on the front both quoted me over a £1,000!!!! Got a local chippy( his Dad keeps pigeons) giving my existing one a facelift for £250 which I think is far better value. See if you can get a local Carpenter or joiner who could build a loft fo you
  8. Put 26 with the trainer today, he had about 400 on, had 8 together then 1s and 2s but got them all within an hour so I was happy for today, done the 50 mile in about 55 minutes. Thanks for all the replies. Mick
  9. They have been well trained to 25 miles, I just thought jumping them to 170 was asking a bit to much as there have been a lot of losses locally. The local trainer goes nearly 3/4 of the way to our first race point and on average takes 400+ with him, which at the moment is 200 less than a local fed sends, I missed the comeback race by one week.
  10. Due to young bird sickness, my youngsters only had 1 race so far this season some none at all just got them going again but I now have to either jump the all to 170 miles or one of the old timers said about putting them on with the local trainer for the last 3 weeks (50mile toss) twice a week and he said they would be fine to race as yearlings next years. Any replies would be welcome. All the best, Mick.
  11. This season I decided to not go on the dark and have them Natural as so to speak, I have one team of 16 in a 8x6 loft they are now on the 12th toss(20 miles) and the last 4 or 5 have been a nightmare as they seem to come back in good time(before I am back)then clear off for anything up to 3 hours. My neighbour says the seem to fly around for a couple of minutes then they are gone. Has anyone had a similar thing happen, any suggestions, do they need farther. Advice would be welcome. Mick.
  12. I would agree the birds are probably worth what is asked but as a few before me have mentioned, money is tight at the moment and with the forthcoming budget it could get tighter!!!! There are birds being re-advertised and the same birds seem to be on a merry go round of being on the net or in the books. £75 seems to be the new £50 for youngsters especially if its a "new" strain.
  13. I am moving house later on this year and I am only left with 6 Old Favourites, as I knew with my job I would be moving. I decided that rather than carry on racing this coming season I would have a break for a year. Starting up in 2011 again at my new location. I will want to race up to 500 miles and compete in the local club(inland only) which would be about 190 miles to the coast. The decision I am trying to make is to whether to go for an all round strain of pigeon or split it with a sprinters and distance birds. I have always been a widowhood man so thats what I would stick with probably looking for 16 to 20 widow cocks. So if you had the opportunity to start like me with a clean sheet what birds would you choose? Also I have had a pent roof loft from the year dot, I have the chance to have pantile roof loft, are they any better? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Mick
  14. Got 16 Widow Cocks, 20 pairs for roundabout, and a team of 20x 2009 latebreds trained to 40 miles, oh and 14 pairs of Stock. Aiming for 45 youngsters as I want to go back to racing 20 widow cocks each week as my racing partner decide to pull out last month.
  15. He was racing against a pigeon flying to Jos Mee's loft in the Nottingham area, so I would doubt it was the UNC.
