Hello all, For christmas i asked for a racing pigeon book so that i can research more!! In two days i have read it thoroughly and have these questions for anybody who has an answer!! The first is, if male any female are trying to mate constantly and even if they only mate once a year they still produce alot of young. Now if you only have a reasonably small loft and naturaly you don't want overcrowding so how do you keep the numbers down?? Also if you fly widowhood, how much exersize do you guys give to your Hens?? Thanks all. belated Merry Christmas and a Hapy new Year to all readers, Mike.

What are peoples opinions on open traps? How much do you let them open? Are they safe with hawks ect and will the birds come back to the loft? Mike. p.s. im hoping this makes sense as i might have mis-interpreted what open trap means

Hi again, just got another quick querie: How can you tell how good a pigeon is by looking at it?? There seem to be alot of people on the site putting pictures up of their birds and every comment is a 'great birds mate' type reply. Can somebody please show me a picture of a bad bird and explain how to tell them apart because to be totaly honest they all look pretty tidy! And the ones which i wouldn't rate as highly seem to sell for more/be valued higher!! Thanks in advance, Mike.

I dont beleive in 'lucky wins' either and as i have never raced a pigeon my opinion doesnt count for anything anyway. I was just saying that even though some people might have said the pigeon were lucky there was alot of positives to be had from the race. Mike

Cool. And i bet thoes 'lucky wins' boosted the value of the birs if you ever came to sell it!!

Is it more prestigeous to win a race when there are for instance 90% of the original racer home or when 90% of the racers never made it back?? Mike
