If a bird wins a prize it is a prize winer if it wins a 1st it is a first prize winer calling a bird a winner is just a general term suggesting success at some level but not being specific! Regards Bob Pickering

Why should it matter! its a pigeon race. As long as the bird is clocked at the measured point (loft) and not to a shorter place you will get the true velocity. Not something distorted by handicap ie; age or disability etc. Regards Bob Pickering

There should be no metal above or below the pad within 10 inches ideally an odd screw or nail wont matter. It sometimes takes a long while but eventually after leaving the pads switched on for a while the pads do sometimes stop clocking birds if there is to much metal near to the pad. Regards Bob Pickering (Bricon agent)

Sounds like you have not programmed the second pad! If youre clock says clocking on 1 antenna when plugged in you can be sure that is your problem if it says clocking on 2 it is correctly programmed. You can call me or Mark Palmer for advise we will get it going for you. Regards Bob Pickering

Yes Tony the birds would be flying under each seperate owners name but flying from the same loft location ie. 1st Joe Bloggs from One Loft Stable etc. thereby getting on the result and also being supervised and ruled by the normal RPRA rules with the one loft being held to account for any iregularities being as they are the managers. In effect the birds are racing for full honours everywhere and their owners and One loft managers (Stable) given a shared credit but the owner being put first on any result. Regards Bob Pickering

I believe One loft racing should always be racing at Fed level and National level not on their own this is for security! They should be treated like a separate club and all individual members birds should be declared on the full Fed or National result (if they are good enough). If basketed at a local club they should be charged a handling fee, proceeds to that club. Maybee there should be an associated membership fee to the respective organisation eg. Fed, National, for each individual member that has entered the one loft perhaps this could be a one off charge for each individual bird each season this could be fairly low to reflect the number of birds entered and the fact they are looked after by someone else. Just a few positive ideas to mull over instead of fighting competition we should be promoting it but in a fair and regulated way. For far to long these one loft races have been making there own rules up and security has sometimes been questionable! Regards Bob Pickering

Great lines Les I have still not found better. I had a Janssen cock that was best bird highest average velocity in the five national races of the BICC last year called him 'Grinder' inbred to the old lines mothers side the father came from Tom Dawson. I have put him to stock now as he has been to many national races since being a yearling winning many prizes and lots of pool money. I think this was a fantastic achievement bearing in mind that he beat many thousands of birds flying well over a hundred miles less than him in all five channel races also birds to the west and birds to the east so with everything against him position and distance wise! He also went to Saintes and made a mistake perhaps I was to greedy nevertheless he has earned his retirement big style Regards Bob Pickering

I have the Slateys, Red Schalies and Slatey Mealies. My Janssen family are based on the Red Schalie lines from the seventies through a famous stock cock of the time called Schalie Bange bred at the Ponderosa and owned by Haywood lofts. The reason they prevail in my stock and race team is this line still produces open class winners. My avator is one of my best stock hens Cleopatra direct daughter of Schalie Bange mother of a Gold Medal winner and a Carwinner for me her blood runs through many open class winners throughout the UK. I do have a small stud and I have them available most rounds throughout the season. Regards Bob Pickering

Wrong there Joe, what about the NFC and the BICC both cover the whole of England and more with many thousands of birds going in both! As I have said before the way forward with this issue is for Feds to adopt any age racing alongside of old bird racing and young bird racing seems a shame the youngsters go to a race with no chance of recognition! Regards Bob Pickering

Rings are registration details and as such full details from both rings should be on a race sheet. Otherwise it opens a can of worms! We should be looking at ways of legitimately competing with young birds alongside the old birds surely this is a good idea and when weather is not to favourable the old birds will help the youngsters leave the racepoint so reducing losses. Regards Bob Pickering PS putting the tape on is tampering with a birds registration details!

We are clutching at straws here! The ring is a form of identification and record of year of birth anyone putting rings on pigeons with the objective of winning old bird prizes with a young bird is cheating! no ifs or buts plain and simple cheating and should be dealt with accordingly. We do have a rule that covers ungentlemanly conduct this rule should be used if anyone tries to get round the rules in a decietful manner. Regards Bob Pickering

If its the ring only that races surely you would have to pay for both one as a race bird and the other as a trainer. :-/ Most clubs and national races insist on full ring numbers being entered on the race entry sheet. Further if a bird has got a 2009 ring on the other leg it proves the bird is a young bird so therefore disqualified from Old bird racing in 2009. I stand by my earlier stance, anyone in my club that tries this trick will be disqualified from the old bird race. further in my position as Fed President if I find it is happening in another club I will instruct the Fed secretary to disqualify said birds. Again all subject to appeal. If people feel the need to send youngsters with the old birds I am not against that but they must only be entered as trainers not competing in any way unless of course it is an any age race. Regards Bob Pickering

Nothing wrong with any age races ,you are breaking rules if you allow young birds to race for prizes in the Old bird program just the same as sending old birds to young bird races. Remember complete ring numbers must be put on race enry sheets! (BOTH RINGS). Regards Bob Pickering

In reply to this double ringing of young birds,This is surely not legal as you should put complete ring numbers on your race entry sheet this would include both rings and therfore the bird would be disqualified from both OB and YB racing. Only any age races could the bird qualify but not for prizes within this race that are age related just the same as a cock cannot fly for hens prizes and visa versa. The following RPRA rules should give you an idea I did think that there was a rule that said that all race sheets should have the complete ring numbers of each pigeon entered. I have not found it but many other clubs have a domestic rule covering this. 120. Each Club shall keep a record for a minimum of two years showing the full ring number, colour, sex and owner’s name of every pigeon sent in races organised by the Club, whether competing or not. 178. In no circumstances may the details of the full ring number, colour, sex and owners’ name of every pigeon sent in a race arranged by an Organisation be destroyed less than two years after the date of the race. Hope this helps. As chairman of my own club I would rule this practice out of order subject to appeal of course! Regards Bob Pickering

Gerwin that looks a great idea. How much do they cost? Regards Bob Pickering

Looks like a red schalie another description that fits well is slatey red! The feathers appear to be quite badly fretted this causes the light markings across the feather webbing. This bird is probably a janssen based bird. The red schalie blood in my family all descend from a famous breeder called Schalie Bange (red schalie cock) owned by Haywood lofts he was direct from the Ponderosa Janssens through Olympiad Bange in the seventies. Weak backs and wide tails not a characteristic of my family! Regards Bob Pickering
