Hi guys in a previous thread i was worried about the lack of flight in my birds well now it seems they dissapear for hours on end not just 1 or 2 hours i am talking 7-8 hours a day i check the local area and they not about on roofs or with any of the 2 fanciers in my village they come back clean and i am wondering is it normal for them to fly this long and if not how do i sort my trouble out i am due some ybs from a local fancier and dont want them to do the same as i want to try train them my way not to take off when they please All Advice Appreciated
-
hi i have treated them for that a local fancier gave me some treatment and also for worm and other things but like i say they seem happy now they fly out for upto an hour then straight back in no more roofing so i am sure the problem is over
-
i have sorted it out now and we have 2 more also a local fancier gonna breed me some late birds he doesn't race anymore so said he would do this for me does any1 know any fanciers in manchester who may have an old loft cheap i can buy so i can get some more birds as my 2 son's are starting to become very keen and interested in the birds and as we aren't in a club if i give him the small loft and we can compete with each other just for fun :) :)

I have pigeons and an old fancier close to me advised me not to race because of thing like this he still flys but not racing anymore he bred me some young birds and said they will do well if i were to race but after hearing things on here i am put off racing but i am still flying my son and i are competing against each other i have 4 birds he has 2 and we take them out and release them 2gether just to see who has the best bird abit of fun for us as the birds are all in the same brick loft however we are gonna get 2 small lofts when we get money for it and the raise our birds seperate his and mine and then see how we do with a team each LOL :) :) :) we really enjoy our own little club :) :)

thanks guys was just wondering as i hear people on here asking for certain strains or selling certain grandchildren to these strain and i just wanted to know as i thnk if i was to buy anymore birds i couldn't afford these sort of prices and if i were to race there would or so it is led me to believe that this sport is all about strains and hundreds of birds i ive in small village with 1 other fancier who does no longer race and i dont have the room to build a huge loft to house hundreds of birds i have turned my old brick shed into a small loft with my 4 birds in and they fly home to it from a distace i asked for advice on here and what advice i got was excellent and has really helped me gain control of my birds but the strain thing was worrying me for next year if i want to race
-
Hi guys i am enjoying my pigeons only got 4 and now have total control of them and routine. and if next year i were to want to race would it matter what strain of bird i had i thought it was down to individual and also the bird just like with dogs or any other pet you may own the best but may not breed the best from them

Hi every1 just a quikie to say must off been down to feed as they are now flying well and coming in when called
-
that morning feed seems to have made plenty of difference they have flown plenty they come rest on roof then of flying again maybe i am sorted now thanx again guys

I think 1 oz per bird per day is a bit on the light side. Should be at least double that? They are still growing, and they start moulting almost as soon as they are shifted. Mine are 1 oz mornings, and 1 1/2 oz evenings. Maybe your birds are thinking of their 'empty stomachs' when out. Hungry birds are the same as overfed birds - they don't want to fly. think that was problem i was given bad advice as was told 1 feed in the evening of 1oz per bird i fed them 1oz per bird at 5am let them out at 7am and they have flown round for 30mins so far they still not landed so maybe it was that they were hungry thanx all for advice will let you know if the problem is fully resolved i have closed the loft to leave them out longer

what do i need to do and where can i get the treatment from
-
thanx guys yes age was a concern but the distance they fly when i basket them and release them they do fine it is just when i let them out for exercise. i have 1 cock bird 12months old and 3 ybs approx 8 weeks old the feed is 1oz per bird of a general pigeon corn i had tumblers before and they did fine but they went and the racers are hard to get them flying the only problem is the they sit on the roof i will keep them in for a few days and observe them see what happens and get regularaty and routine to them maybe the problem was loosing the other 8 birds made them worried anymore advice much appreciated

Hi guys quick question i have only 4 birds now had 12 but wasn't finding it easy to train them into a pattern so was told by local fancier to cut my birds down which i have done and i cut there feed and still no result with them although i must say they fly home if i take them out 15miles away they fly home and in good time to but trying to get them to exercise at home is a problem they just sit on the roof and if i try flag them off they sit across the street on there roof i kept the best of the bunch but still no joy any ideas or should i try starting over again
