  1. All pigeons are easy food for hawks Karl. It's only the ones that experience close encounters that survive others were not hawk smart. Try and see, so long as you have the parents you can breed some more.
  2. I quickly examined my birds droppings today when cleaning them out. They say yu can tell a lot from the droppings. Well mine look pretty healthy, but theres a something biting inside...instincts I think. The cocks droppings are is darkish green heading towards the color of grass, with the white in. Not slimy, but not competently firm. They are moist like cream cheese. The hens on the other hand looks like a Chelsea bun. Hers are dark green, again cream cheese style with white in. I was thinking it might be worms, she eats but not a full crop or even half a crop not to sure about water, but its fresh every day.
  3. I did that today. Could find a riddle fine enough so I made one out of wood an spare 1cm x 1cm netting. Used two pieces of netting and reduced the holes to 1/4cm. I've got all the big chunks of corn out, only the small stuff like wheat, linseed and that sort of stuff passes through. The sand is great now it's all dried out, like play sand ;D The droppings hit the sand and dry out and break down when I rake it. I'll see how long it will last before I have to do a complete change of sand. (This is where a metal bin and sun come in handy. Pour your sand in and turn it daily until it's dry like play sand)
  4. Ratings ;D
  5. That would have come from the Chequer for a guess. Somewhere in her ancestry was a red cheq or a mealy and since white is not a true colour I'm guessing the genes found a match and made red. From the picture it's going to be a gorgeous pigeon :'( ;D
  6. hehe. Liked the peacock bit ;D
  7. Here are my pigeons I got from JakJak.
  8. Everyone picks there best and sells the ones they don't want, if they don't sell then it's the bin. I won't breed of rubbish, so I won't sell rubbish all will be quality birds. If nobody wants them, like I said theres the alternative.
  9. Hi. Wondered if anyone knew whether the Welsh Homing Union rings with 'N' were the same as the GB 'N' rings, which are sent to the National Clubs.
  10. I wonder if anyone could help me? I've been using PLO (Like this software) and there is a part in it that is for Eyesign Rating. What the hell is the Rating? I've studied the eye sign a bit and know the difference between a racer and a breeder by the ridges in the iris. I'm still studying the other areas too, but when I saw this it stumped me. I'm guessing that the Rating is between 1-10, 10 being the best, and then you have five rings. Here's my example of the eye sign rating: 10 - (This would be the pupil) 4 - (Circle of Adaption) 7 - (Circle of Correlation) 9 - (Iris) 2 - (Health Circle) Could anyone shed light onto this subject, or have I got it right for rating. I have got S.W.E.Bishops Secret of the Eye sign coming soon, so I'll be studying that.
  11. Probably from an non-club member. Perhaps an individual member.
  12. Thanks for the advice. I'm putting 8 boxes in this shed. End of the year, maybe early next year I am getting another shed 6 x 4 for YBs. I'm going to breed 16 a year when all boxes are full and split into two teams of 8. at the end of the year I will pick the best and sell the rest. This should keep my teams small and save on garden space too. ;D
  13. Here's how my loft looks now from the outside. Made the dowelling windows myself. The paneled area drops down to a landing board and the birds can enter via bob wires.I installed the aviary on the side today. Tomorrow (weather permitting) i will put an access hole into the aviary then add the vents at the front and rear.
  14. Yeah, near enough. About 2 Miles. Got a great view of Dudley Castle. The glass is gone Phil. Cheap it was, broke in my hands (Had gloves on) Made some doors with dowelling. I'll post an image tomorrow. Got to put some ventilation in, got the vents already. Will do that as soon as I've put the aviary up on the side. I've considered all of this and will get around to it over the next few days

I get that with our garden sheds. The bottom shiplap begins to curl outwards. I think it might be the treatment they use.
  16. Has anyone visited? We went today to collect a 4 Bird Basket and I was amazed at the pigeons they had there. There must have been two 15-20ft Lofts full of racers and a 10x8 full of Tipplers (could have possibly been unrung racers because they seemed larger than tipplers) My fiance was falling in love with the coloured birds, the blues didn't get a chance with her. (She's not to keen on the blue bars for some reason) All in all very nice staff, well priced too. Budgies were £10, second cheapest I've seen this side of walsall. I'll be going back.
  17. I've decided to put the partition by the door making a 5ft x 5ft area, which will eventually have two sets of 4 widowhood nest boxes installed, but for now I'm just installing the perches until I add the boxes.

  19. We got a cat like that, all but the baseball bat, but I'd bet he'd use it if there was one hehe
  20. I think it's more exciting seeing the bird you bred from an egg return to your loft after the first and last race of the season. I know I was.
  21. I don't think strain name matters. As soon as you begin training the birds 'your way' and they win 'your way' the name of the strain doesn't matter because its your training that have made the bird com into form, not the Janssen brothers, or Roland Janssens or even Staf Van Reet. They only sold there birds and the people that bought them named the strain after them. I read somewhere the Staf Van Reets were linebred to the Janssen. Could be wrong? It's how they perform that's more important, not their name.
  22. A multinational winner for me. Then you've been playing in the big league.
  23. Sacrafices have to be made ;D
  24. I see my error :'( I meant to say 6 for £120.
