i've been watching these courier posts since amtrak went into administration, and having done the courier business myself , like others , decided , thats a job that needs doing right !! although i admire the present blokes/ companys for trying to put into place a satisfactury service (you will never please everybody), i, having past experience in logistic movements , took it upon myself to try to form a viable national pigeon courier service using past experience from parcels/ packages, combined with a lifetimes knowledge in pigeons, and came up with a real solution of "if i am going to carry pigeons , i am going to try my best to make it damned good", so as you will see from my website, the company is/are talking to other couriers and fanciers, with the ultimate aim of offering a viable friendly service , with competetive prices, to compete in a market , where only the best will survive !! . unfortunatlly ? a few will not survive , or the knowledge/ workload will be against them !! , we will !! that is why i will not be offering a full time service till febuary 2009 , please refer to my website for any more info >>>>> WWW.PIGEONCOURIERS.co.uk

call me mr. 10 % if you must, but i also have nothing but praise for cloudviews pigeons, having just moved to the area in april, cloudview set me up with 17 out of my 23, 2008 young birds, these distance pigeons have flown really well against the specialist young bird sprinters in our club , only being the odd minute or two behind (maybe thats my fault) every week, out of the 17, :- one went missing when they roamed , and i suspect that hit wires as another loft mate returned cut up. 2 missing racing, and one succumed to ybs, 13 flown the programme out of 17 aint a bad return ??, make cheque out to >>> blah blah blah stuart !! lol

good price ally !! BUT ?? cornwall, devon , ireland, are different , the way national distribution works is , local driver drops off up to mid afternoon, picking up those he can as he does his local round, late afternoon after his deliveries he then collects and has to arrive at his local depot by say ? 6pm, this depot then transfers its packages (or pigeons) for national delivery, to other depots throughout the country overnight via, articulated lorrys, then the local driver starts at 7am to begin his local deliverys, so, / a small set up, finds it hard to compete on a price and time delivery service, i do believe that a good set up by a good one man band can have its advantages, if not in competetive price , by care and attention

have coopers a price to cork gangster ?
-
i understand your different points of view, totally agree that after a long day a driver just wants to get himself home and forget about the birds , but a non fancier 24 hour service might not care as much , see it as "just another parcel" i've seen them thrown about in the past. !! the phantom flyers probably that busy he cannot answer enough calls since amtrak ended . whoever gets louella pigeon worlds business will be the company who gains most ?
-
i think theres 2 ways of looking at this pigeon courier business, a 24 hour turnaround service is needed if the pigeons are not going to get fed and watered by a profesional parcel courier type business, alternatively, a pigeon fancier who can accomodate pigeons and feed and water them could offer a viable national delivery service that may take up to 5 working days if he has only limited transport srvices (i.e. one van) as long as the pigeons recieve good care in say holding baskets . i myself being 3rd generation pigeon fancier and a courier in the past have been looking at the costs alongside a partner to set up a service, but at the moment are waiting to see how the situation goes, price wise the ones charging 30 to 35 pound look quite fair in our eyes, the foremost concern , must be the welfare of the pigeon and not the cost

kev, stuart was going to give me the details of the youngsters , they were all crosses from his race team , i asked him not to give me any more details till after racing as i wanted to judge the pigeons on their racing ability rather than their pedigree. i know a few are patrick brothers crossed, i only live 400 yards from him , having been to his loft, and having worked with him, plus knowing his national results , my initial thoughts were , if they are good enough for him , then they are good enough for me, and i have not been dissapointed , our club sends 300 birds, and till this week i have not been over 4 minutes behind the sprinters and young bird specialists with these distance birds , stuart himself flys in another club and took 3rd fed at the 1st y.b race
-
darky had sat nav implanted before racing stuart !! is that allowed in the rpra rules ?
-
OMG !! darkys picked up a scottish accent in less than half a day !!! lol
-
i'm not chasing owt , i'm well pleased with them, and if next week goes ok , then i will have a few yearlings to play with at the sort of distances they are bred for, i've got julie to lQQk into the crystal ball and she can see a little single white flighted cheq hen fullfilling our dreams !!!!
-
can i just explain to those who don't know , i packed in pigeons 6 year back , due to divorce etc, this year stuart (cloudview) bred 16 y.b's for me and mi julie to race, and our other workmate 6 y.b's, after 4 races , today is my worst result being 7 minutes behind, i still have 16 to race (17 when darkys ransom comes through ) my 1st, 2nd , and 3 out of the 4 that came 3rd were cloudviews , our fed sent 4000 plus today
-
oh dear stuart !!! i thought most blame went on the breeders shoulders ?? by the way ? i wonder who bred him ? lol
-
OK you lot , own up, who's got him, Don't act the innocent with me !!!, GB 08 N 57239 dark cheq cock, somebody must have him coz after 4 races they don't go missing do they ? i can't believe for a minute that he's hit the wires !!, got hawked !!!, or god forbid got himself lost !! 15 of his mates made it look easy today , so, who's lofts he in !! NO CRYING PLEASE !!! thats my job !!! No ransoms will be acknowledged !!

i hoped this rule topic might generate a few ideas, its good to see people putting their opinions over, i agree that the stray situation is a problem , its an embaresment at times. i like the idea of volountry stamping, or telephone rings so that the person getting a stray knows the owners wishes. the only downfall to this is if the general public get a stray in we need to show our commitment and maybe have a compulsery stamp, stateing report to the RPRA ? for all that do not want to put their own contact info on ?

As Autumn is fast approaching, and young bird racing comes to a close after the classics, nationals etc in september. Meetings then take over, so , my question to members is :- WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD BE A GOOD WORTHWHILE ADDITION TO THE PRESENT RULES, one that would be beneficial and sensible for the sport of racing pigeons as a whole ? and also please add any rules that you think need deleteing, maybe something outdated or no longer needed ?? hope this gets your minds thinking
