  1. Hi everyone, i've been away for the last 9 days and my mum had been looking after my little fellas. I've come back and Blackie is hardly limping, he's eating again and back to his cocky self. Am gonna leave him in the old shed til I can change the new one around. Thanks to all of you who offered advice. xxxx :K)
  2. Thanks guys a very nice man called Bob is coming to look at him for me today. He is only in Sutton so thats very handy. Its hard cos I've never really handled Blackie as he normally wont let me get anywhere near him. He gets in such a state when I try I think I might give him a heart attack with the shock. Hoping Bob can give me a few pointers. Thanks for the garlic advice I will go and buy some today xx
  3. Thanks darlin thats great. Somebody had just PM'd me who livesin Sutton so I'm gonna give him a ring later to see if he can come over. Thanks to Bob for that xx
  4. Are these pictures any help guys. Thanks everyone xx
  5. Will it heal or do I need to be worried? He's off his food too xx
  6. Hello guys, I now know why Blackie was so subjuded. He seems to have injured his right leg. He has a very prminient limp, the feathers around his leg are all ruffled and is not eating. Any ideas as to what I should do. I'm so worried about him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys xxx :'(
  7. Well done Keiran, your dad must be very proud of you. A real chip off the old block. Best of luck for 2009 x
  8. I have split it in two hun but blackie just doesnt seem to lke it in there xxx
  9. This is a picture of new shed and in relation to old shed. I had no option as to where to put the new one as I had to leave the old one there for probate. There is another shed nearer to the house I may replace that one. I didn't want to replace the otherone as if I lose the court case I will have to take shed down and if there is no old shed there I would have to replace that one too. Would NEVER leave the pigeons as other family memebers wanted the pigeons destroyed when grandad died even though that was the most important thing to him. Making sure his pigeons were cared for. Well they do say you cant choose your family and I would chose my pigeons over most of them any day lol. Not my immediate family, they're lovely xx
  10. Thanks guys. I'm assuming a flight is what I call boxes lol!!! stuck on where the windows should be. However, blackie is in the corner and it doesn't get much light cos the other loft is overshadowing it. I'm gonna have to have a HUGE rethink. Poor little love is so freaked out. I stroked him today for the first time. He would never let me get anywhere near him before. That black cat is still lurking around so I'm off out today to get a sonic cat repeller. I didn't think it was fair on the cat upstairs as he used to sit out on the window but NEVER came in my garden. WEll its winter now so he doesnt do that. The gloves are off now I will see off that pesky cat lol!!
  11. Hello everybody, I got back yesterday evening and my mum told me Blackie came home but only narrowly escaped being cat fodder!! My mum was spening as much time as possible at mine but she had to go home to feed her cats and One Eye who is at my mums as she is so old now bless her we wanted her to be with somebody who is there all the time. When she came back she heard all this comotion in the back garden she ran round to find this bugger of a black cat, who ALWAYS bothers my poor babies no matter what I try to do, half way through the trap. My mum said another minute or two late Blackie would have been a goner. I know cats are supposed to have 9 lives but I'm sure Pigeons must have more. Anyway Blackie is VERY subjuded. He was quite antisocial before and wouldn't let me anywhere near him. Now he sits in the corner and lets me go right up to him. Gos know what happened to him on his little adventure but I think it might be a while before he does that again. Saying that I'm leaving him in the old loft for now as he just didnt settle in the new one. I bought a bigger one so he would have more room but he will not go in with Drop Wing as he attacks him quite severly. My stepdad split the shed in two but now its too small and its quite dark in the corner where Balckie is as the other loft is still up ad shadows the new one. I cant remove it cos of this court case and probate laws . I may have to get yet another shed as I dont know how much longer the old loft will stand up. Mind you I'm so glad it was still there as the new one has no trap. Just boxes. I have found a free cycle website so am gonna look on there to see if I can find an unwanted shed as money is much tighter now I'm with child lol!!! Thanks to everyone who messaged me with support and advice Nikki xx
  12. Thanks guys. My mum had told me that Blackie got out once before as he used to be paired up with Polly. They both went out one day. Blackie came back but Polly didnt. Sods law I gotta go away tonight and I cant get leve cos its bloomin half term but my mum is gonna come over tomorra and i've opened the trap so he can get back in the old loft now. I'm so glad I didn't pull it down. I'll keep you posted when I get back xx
  13. If anybody does find a stray he's very big and quite unsociable. Very dark blue/black in colour and quite old. I know thats probably not gonna help much. I'm in the Epsom, Surrey area.
  14. I dont know either. They were my grandads pigeons. He did have a ring on but I dont know what the number is he would never sit still long enough for me to read it. I just got this horrible feeling he aint coming back :'(
  15. Well guys its not my week. Blackie had just made his bid for freedom. He had been quite unsettled since I put him in his new loft. As you know my old birds dont go out any more. I was putting some fresh water in and he freaked out flying back and forth and then flew against the inside door which I had shut to and out through the main door. I'm absolutely gutted and am hoping he will come back but he's not been out in a very long time. My stepdad is coming over to see if he can open the trap door on the old shed but its nearly falling apart. Any suggestions as to what I can do guys. I'm very angry with myself and just hope no nasty predator gets him
  16. i'd love to have more but my job as an air hostess make it hard as I have to get my mum to come over when I'm away. I've always said I only wnt a boyfriend so I can have pets lol!!!! My baby is due 22nd April. Am off to bed now. Have turned into a right borin ol fart these days lol nite from me & my pidgies xx
  17. Thanks for your advice The Fifer, My babies are in a new loft so there should be no draught coming in it just seems so bloomin cold out there but then I guess thats wot feathers are for lol!!!
  18. Lol you made me laugh Chris - I think your ok but if the phone rings and it Jeremy Kyle then you better start sweating lol!!!!
  19. Thanks guys for all your kind words I am obviously a little worried about the other ones as they are so old and it is so bitterly cold at the moment. I have put plastic sheeting round the traps and then blankets round that (I take it down during the day) Is there anything else I should be doing guys? Thanks again everyone xxx (my baby scan piccs :-) )
  20. Sadly my grandad didn't make it as long as Chicken Legs. He died last December which is how I came to take on his pigeons and subsequently came accross this site whilst trying to find out information on how to look after them the best way I can. There is only 3 left now. One Eye, Drop Wing and Big Blackie. They are all pretty old but Chicken Legs was the oldest I think. He was such a character. He had legs just like a chicken (hence the name) and he always used to make me laugh. I used to clean them out and feed htme for my grandad for the couple of years before he died but I never realised just how lovely they were until I spent alot more time with them. I will miss him bless him but at lease he can keep my grandad company now xx
  21. Hi all I haven't been on in a while. I've had quite alot on my plate having just found out recently that I'm going to have a baby. On a sadder note one of my grandads lovely old pigeons sadly died yesterday :'(. It was Chicken Legs. I'm so gutted as he was such a character. However I know my grandad would be proud of how me and my mum have looked after his birds (thanks to alot of help from you guys). Chicken Legs was 19 years old so he had a good long happy life and he is winging his way to that big old pigeon loft in the sky now where my grandad can look after him. Thanks again for all your help guys Nikki xx
  22. Thanks for all your advice everyone, I didnt realise they moult this time of year. Will wait for lovely shiny coat to emerge now. Will also check out the protein food xx
  23. Hi there, As you guys know my new loft is now finished. I layed down an extra floor yesterday for extra insulation and finally put Drop Wing in his new home. Blackie is not moving over just yet as the old loft is still errect and it means his only view is the other loft which I dont think is fair. He so loves to sit by the trap door and watch the world go by. As soon as the old one can come down I'll move him too. Drop Wing still seems quite unsure and has spent alot of time on the floor. She hasnt layed down and chilled since shes got in there. Is this quite normal? Will it take time to adjust? I've been spending alot of time down there to reassure her but she still doesnt seem that settled. Also I've noticed that she seems to have quite a few feathers missing off her neck, especially under her beak where she obviously cant pull em out herself. Shes by herself so its not down to fighting. Any ideas anyone?? Many thanks xxx
  24. Lol, I have to say that not being up with pigeon terminology you're comment, veteran of the loft, has made me and my friend giggle!!!!!
  25. Aggghhhhh........ bored of this now >
