Hi guys It'e me again with old Blackie. I'm due to go away on a long trip and we've decided that Blackie should not stay here as my mum may not be able to get here so I'm taking him to my mums. However every time I've tried to handle him he gets so distressed and his breathing becomes so laboured that I give up. Am I likely to do more harm by trying to handle him? SOrry its so last minute but snow has got really bad Love Nikki xx

I know this may sound a bit divvy but do I take him to a vet to get him tested or do you have to go to a bird specialist and if so where do I find one? I never had any of the others get ill. Thanks for all your help guys xxxxx

Thanks Mark, I'm kind of reluctant to not cover him up as my grandad always did and he is very old, over 20 years old and I think the stress of the cats and the cold will be too much for him at his age but on Friday I'm gonna give the loft a proper scrub out and try the oil and cider vinegar and he's gonna have a nice bath on Friday. I unfortunately do not have the time to do it before Friday as I have my little one but he will be at his dads on Friday so Friday is Blackie pamper day. I dont think he'll let me look in his mouth, out of all of my grandads bird he is the most nervy and goes absolutely nuts when I go near him if he lets me pick him up without a fuss I KNOW he's ill but again I just dont want to cause him any unnecessary stress

Ahhh poor little fella is breathing funny all the time. It only just happened, he was ok yesterday. hope he's gonna be ok xxx

ahh thanks guys will try the garlic and see if that works. When I say cover him up at night I put a cover over the wire mesh as it is really cold at night plus there are alot of cats around here that jump up at the mesh in the night so I cover him up and then uncover him in the morning. If the garlic doesn't work what can i do, is it serious and do I need to be worried, I'll be gutted if I lose this one as its the last of my grandads pigeons :-( Do I just put some cloves of garlic in the water? xxxx

Hello there I dont know if anybody remembers me - I use to come on here a while ago as I was looking after my late grandads pigeons. I then had a baby and have not been on here since as my baby has sleep problems and I usually only get a couple of hours a night. I only have Blackie left now and I am still looking after him. When I covered him up this evening it sounded like he was snoring. Is it possible for a pigeon to snore or should I be worried - does he have respitatory problems? Any help would be gratefully received. AM off to bed now as my lil bubba will probably be up in an hour or so lol!!!! Hope everybody is well and happy here. I recognised Old Yellow but have not really had time to look around this super super new site. Love Nikki, baby Traivys and a snoring Blackie xx

i HAVEN'T PICKED HIM UP AS THE CAT REALLY SPOOKED HIM AND IT FREAKS HIM OUT IF I PICK HIM UP LOVE HIM. SHOULD I BE WORRIED? -
Hi guys, Firstly I'd like to announce the arrival of my son Traivys on 30th April 2009. Born by c-section at 6pm, weighing in at 8lb 9oz. He's sooo beautiful and I'm in love. I have attached a photo. As you can imagine I'm kept very busy and am struggling to keep up with everything but just about managing. Drop Wing keeps getting terrorised by a cat and has taken to sitting on the floor of the loft and he makes alot of noise like he's purring almost. Does this mean he's frightened. This cat is new and horrible. Also he keep limping when he first gets up but then he's ok after a bit. He's very old, do you think he has arthritis? Sorry its short and sweet but must get things done while my angel is asleep. Lots of love to you all Nikki & Traivys xx

Thanks guys I really dont want to move them as I have just paid for a brand new loft to be errected and really dont think its fair on them to move them. Plus it would be difficult as my neighbours HATE any kind of animal and would def kick off also my lodger has a dog. Thats why it would be easier to stay at my grandads really. I've got lots of ideas though and am vry grateful for all your input. Blackie seemed to love the snow today but drop wing wasn't impressed and one-eye so doddery she didn't even notice it lol Love Nikki & bump xx -

You know what Joe it didn't even need to be my grandads dying wish cos he always knew that me and my mum would take care of those birds whatever happened and that still stands. There is no way i'll let those birds suffer in any way because of the ugly sisters. They are like my little friends now, well I dont know if Blackie would ever class me as a friend he's far too tough to admit to needing a friend lol. Thanks again and goodnight to you all xxxx -

Hello guys Many many thanks for all your input, I've only just got back from the hopsital, i've been there nearly all day!! This is all so involved. However you have all given more much food for thought and your comments are invaluable. I'm going to investigate further the 'executorship' role and see what I can do with that. It's so nice to know you guys are always on hand to offer advice. I sometimes feel bad as I dont really have any advice to give you guys back as you all know so much more than me as regards pigeons lol!!!!!! All I can offer you is my heartfelt thanks guys Lots of love Nikki & bump, Blackie, Drop Wing & One Eye xxxxx -

Oh thanks for your replies guys but I think you are misunderstanding me. I WANT to keep the pigeons I love them and they are part of my grandad but I need to present a case for staying at my grandads while probate is going thru. Thats why I need some evidence of what it entails looking after pigeons and I know that you said that the birds will be ok but if I dont spend time with them they do go a bit wild and are very unsettled whereas if i'm around they seem much more content. All I want to do is present my case for living here and show how expensive the other option will be of getting somebody in. I made a promise to my grandad that I would take care of his pigeons and I am not going to let him down Love Nikki & bump xx -

Ahh cloud view, I dont think you realise how bad relations are here. I've not seen or spoken to my aunts since the will was read over a year ago. They are motivated by money and we have nothing in common. They dont know I'm pregnant and I really dont want them to know something so personal about me any more. Love Nikki & bump xx -

Many many thanks for your kind replies guys. If anybody has any reports they know of that I can reference as this is the only kind of thing that hold up in court, I would very much appreciate a link. As usual I'm running around like a blue assed fly today. I'm just off to the hospital to go over some of my grandads medical records so I will check in again when I get back. You are all so kind and your help is very much appreciated Love Nikki & bump xx -

Hi All, Firstly my apologies for not writing in a while. Those of you who know me know that I am currently 7 months pregnant and still fighting this bloomin court case over my grandads will. Its really starting to get me down as I was hoping it would be sorted before the baby is born but with my wicked aunts constantly nipping at my heels that is not going to be the case. Its a bit of a difficult one as my grandad had pigeons which I am now looking after. They are all very old now - well into their late teens, early 20's but I have grown to love them as my grandad did and it has been fun getting to know their characters. I have bouight them a nice new loft and I feed them daily and cover them up at night as its been so bitterly cold and clean them regularly. We sadly lost Chicken Legs but Blackie, Drop Wing and One Eye are still going strong. I stay at my grandads alot as I live over half an hour away and being 7 months pregnant it is getting harder and harderto get about and my back is in a terrible state from too much driving. However my aunts are CONSTANTLY harping on about me living here, even though ALL COSTS have been met out of my own pocket, from the bills, the pigeon feed down to the new loft. I need to present a case for living here after the baby is born as I will not be able to get to and from very easily at all as I want my baby to have some routine. I try to go and spend time with the pigeons every day or I find they get very upset when I do go down there as they are not so used to human contact. This is not fair on them and I refuse to jepordise their well being for my nasty aunts who, co-incidentaly wanted them destroyed when my grandad died. I've even had to put padlocks on the lofts as I dont trust them. I need evidence of how important human contact is for my babies, any report I can refer to would be great. Also I am going to calculate how much money I have spent since I've been here and I need to somehow try to find out how much it would cost to get somebody in to care for the birds on a full time basis. Obviously I do not want this as I love those birds but I know how motivated my aunts are by money and if they think that the cost of caring for the birds will come out of their inheritance, like it should be doing as until probate has been granted (it should be paid for by my grandfathers estate) then this should deter them from keep hassling me. I dont understand it. I am the executor of my grandfathers estate so surely its up to me how I care for the livestock. My aunt was an executor but she renounced this so she could contest the will and try to prove my grandad was not of sound mind which is SO NOT TRUE. My grandad was a lovely man and a real gentleman with ALL his faculites. Any help anbody can give me would be so very much appreciated. I feel like I'm drowning a bit at the moment. Thanks for taking the time to read this thread and thanks in advance for any help you can offer me. Love Nikki :-/ & bump, Blackie, Drop Wing and One Eye xxx

Hello guys Well I can't believe its been a whole year since my lovely grandad passed away. So much has happened. I'm still fighting the court case for the will my grandad left as my wicked aunts are trying to say my grandads did not have capacity when he died (my grandad was so proud of the fact he was compus mentos til the end). It's amamzing what money can do to people. On the plus side I'm now expecting a beautiful baby boy and after alot of consideration I've some up with a lovely name which is a fantastic tributel to my nan and grandad. My grandads name was Art (Arthur) and my nans name was Ivy. I'm calling my baby Traivys (pronounced Travis) which is an anagram of both their names. It came to me just the other day and I know they would be so proud. The name also means to cross over which is like my nan and grandad crossing over into my son. Its also been a year since I started looking after my grandads pigeons full time and I could not have done it with out the help of all you guys on this site. I hope one day I'll get to teach my little boy about pigeons so I can pass on that love from his grandad.
