  3. An update on how they are doing: I went in this morning and they were still sitting on the nests, I feed the birds and the hens came off and when they returned to their nests both hens feed the young ones. When I came back from work tonight I feed then again and while the hens were feeding I checked the young ones they were both full of milk and looked ok. If all goes well I will ring them tomorrow night. Regards Dave
  4. I have just swapped the youngsters over under my 2 pairs which were sitting 21 days, I watched them for 15 minutes and the hens did not leave their nests. The hens just sat there fidgeted a bit but then settled down. I will check them again in the morning Just hope they feed then now! Here’s hopping Thanks again for your advice Regards Dave
  5. Thanks Old Yellow i will give it go. Regards Dave
  6. Thanks for the replies my worry is does it make any difference to the young one as the new parents will be giving milk after the original parents have just been giving milk for 5 days to the young one. Regards Dave
  7. Hi, I have pairs of young in the nest at 5 days old. Will a pair that is due to hatch (on plastic eggs because of them being broken) accept and rear a 5 day chick as I would like each breeding pair to rear a least one young? Thanks Regards Dave
  8. Felt tip pen cases work well, just cut with a hack saw to the length you want and if you are fussy you can even match the colours. Regards Dave

  15. Thanks Hjaltland i mainly have Staff Van Reets and because i dont have any long distance hens i have crossed the SVR with the Bob Mc's this year to see what they do. So here's hoping! Regards Dave
  16. Hi Hjaltland do you know what strains made up Peter Titmus of Wheathampstead pigeons? I can find some information Peter Titmus but i can't find anything on the foundation of his pigeon only that they were long distance birds Regards Dave
  17. Thanks for the information. Its interesting, i have 5 dark cheqs and cheqs which Bob bread for me but as i said ealier on the thread the Red cock which was reported hawked at Whitby from a race and given to me is differant to all the others as well its colour. The Red cock is definatly a distance bird as he bread my yearling hen which returned from a hard race from Bourges 542 mile this year. Regards Dave
  18. Hi, i have been looking into this on the internet and i have found a loft report (See Link below) http://www.pigeonnetwork.com/admin/keith_mott/otr/drone.cfm?ID=613 which confirms the two strains kept by Bob Ko Nipius pigeons 1965 That are Jan Aarden based and she quote below "Two families of pigeons are kept, one of which goes back to 1947 and is still winning today. He purchased the Old Crippled Cock from the late James Mill in 1956 and this family has filled the loft with winners 'for many years, including only bird on the day from 600 miles." by Eric Yule of Aberdeen. Any one know anything about the Old Crippled Cock from the late James Mill Regards Dave

  20. Hi, does anyone know what strains of pigeons are contained in the old Bob Mc Donald strain of pigeons (not the Jan Ardans)as i have one of his pigeons (Red cock) and when i was enquiring of purchasing a hen to pair to it the fancier how had Jan Ardens said it may be one of Bob's old strains with it being a Red and not a Jan Arden? Regards Dave

    Pigeon Eye

Thanks again for all your comments. Like i said earlier i don't personally think that there is anything in it, my view is an eye is for seeing! as long as they have two and work then that's good for me. This is why i asked. There are people who do belive there is and i appresate and respect their views. As for the cock bird and if it has not bread any winners at 8 years it's a racer you are right, but i am told he has bread lots of winners and hopfully i will find out myself with the ones i have bread off him this year. Regards Dave
