i do think the darkness can bring ybs on as most do not let any air in to the loft. say they was 40 birds in loft and the amount off air was ok then you close the loft up and now the birds will be stressed as the will be not much air coming in any more. i do not like curtains as they stop air coming in and out but i do like Venetian blinds as air can still pass if you do not close them up all the way

birds fly out at 11am till 12:30 hawk hopefully feed by 11am and start again around 2pm but when its been a very cold night i do not let them out . if you let them sit on the top of loft you going to get hit from hawks.

the sun is very good for are birds so i am one for a light loft but i do like to have dark places for the birds plus i do want to control how much sun and air comes in to the loft. i do think that 90% of the loft that are dark do not warm up easy and do not dry out in the winter you can see by how sticky the droppings are in the morning.
