  13. Your welcome Pete and he is glad you liked them, one good turn deserves another and it's nice to be nice If the mesh trapping idea on the top does not work, he will make dowelling or wire inserts to replace them. He is planning to do that on my loft so you are the guinea pig ;D
  14. Sorry to hear about your loss Frank, we would have definitely done it but there is a high possibility we would lose them at this time of the year being so far away. Try this company http://www.dovejoy.com/htm/contact.htm or Tammy, I gave him some whites
  15. It is called a protein lump but it is not the feeding of too much protein it is the birds inability to deal with proteins for some reason. This bird made a full recovery and is out flying with the rest as normal, it has never had another one :-/

  17. Your right and there is no way knowing but if a person enters under any falsehood to any part of life they are breaking the law/rules. We have underage drinking, sex, driving, clubbing which we all have to police in some form or other as parents and members of society. I think the pigeon fraternity is one of the easiest to control as it is not just a public forum but a sociable gathering where we all interact and find out about each other just like the poultry sites and that is where the six week rule helps :-/
  18. We are talking about banter on a pigeon site for over 18's rather than anything sinister that would happen in PM's. The Internet is proving to be a haven for people lying about their age or even gender from flippant to devastating effects but mostly done in the privacy parts of sites not in the open for all to see as you soon work it out. If a five year old is posting adult jokes or remarks then his parents need a slap ;D

    HAWKS.

You could be right, not much difference :-/ Peregrine Gosshawk
  20. Not always the case, if it takes hold it will devastate your loft but I do agree in letting your birds develop natural immunity. I think the problem rears it's ugliest head when you bring new stock in or mix with other birds which in inevitable when you race them :-/

  24. We have learned the hard way when we first started that Salmonella can be treated but there are two possibilities as there are in humans as well, it can be cured or it can stay as a carrier for life. Only tests can determine this, almost every creature has salmonella at some level, if you do not cook meats in particular poultry you can be become ill with salmonella so it has to present in the first place We lost a whole loft of birds because we brought one in without quarantining it, it was from a well known fancier and looked really healthy and we found out too late that this was our problem, we had to blow torch the loft and we burned all the nest boxes and perches that ###### had made and made totally new ones We have learned a lot about it through DEFRA and vets as we keep chickens as well, sadly as I say the hard way, we will never eradicate it, if your birds land anywhere outside your loft and a seagull, crow, sparrow, squirrel or countless other creatures has fouled there then you are open to contracting it
  25. Peter there is a garden centre that sells log cabins just off J6 on the M8 heading towards Newmains that sells Butinox, not sure of the price but worth checking out :-/
