  1. Yes the kindness is overwhelming, i was looking to keep the numbers managable and that is what i intend so it is shaping up really nicely, oh and the loft is nearly ready
  2. Thanks for all the support
  3. Are you saying that after a few throws of the birds they will naturally get home quicker and better? How many times and from what initial distance do u suggest the first young bird throws should be? Thanks
  4. Late at night , thats interesting i just assumed first thing was always the best time Thanks When i get birds i will give it a go
  5. Is there a best time to send birds out for training?
  6. Not to bothered who wins, but if Holland win i realy hope they open up a bit and attack, ironic if they win after the brilliant sides of the past(74 &78) didnt quite manage it and probably should have. Spain are brilliant to watch though and if they play to form they should get the trophy. Wishfull thinking result - 3-2 Spain Reality result - 0-0 AET ,Holland win 2-1 on penalties. Lets hope for a classic.
  7. Is there a list of clubs in an area to look at, contact then consider joining? I am in Airdrie Lanarkshire, anyone recomend a club to join that is near me, not sure if some are exclusive etc? Thanks
  8. Fantastic that would be great
  9. There are a few lofts around my area and i pass a few cracking big lofts between Coatbridge and Glenmavis, are most guys happy to be approached for advice etc or do people get suspicious about guys at the door asking questions?
  10. ive been looking through a few sites and had plenty great comments of encouragement. I have decided it would be best to get started this year and the loft is underway. Back hols in first week of august and will look to get some young birds then, hopefully reds, whites, grizzles etc a nice mix with a max of about 10 to start with. I was looking at the Louela site, my god the prices for older birds are amazing even though heavily reduced still very expensive, i never realised the cost of these birds, thankfully i will stick to the youngsters. Who knows what the future will hold though.
  11. I am away on holiday then, typical novice arranging holidays at the start of the season
  12. Yes i was thinking about getting good birds, but as a new guy it will be difficult to approach people, i dont like asking as it is always assumed i imagine that you are after something for nothing. I dont want loads of birds, about ten max to begin with. It wood be nice to have varying colours and distance ability but i am a simple novice. As for the best in my area, go on then tell me who they are if you can, Airdrie & Coatbridge is my local area. I really do appreciate all the advice on offer
  13. Hi all I was discussing on another thread about starting up this August on returning from hols, my loft will be ready and i was looking at about a dozen ish birds to train through this year and next to gain experiance. I want to learn a lot and make sure i treat the birds properly, so with good advice i want to take my time. My son and daughter are keen to help and i am posting to see if any you more experianced flyers will have late breads around mid august that you may have no space for in your own lofts. Any colours etc as the fun for me is in the whole science of it and the more amazing looking the better. The lofts i have been lucky enough to see are fantastic and i have a good idea about what i want to achieve, maybe the competative bug will bite me as well but the sport fascinates me. Thanks in advance
  14. Great Tooshy Boy i think i will come down, i am on hols from the following weakend so it would be great, to come along, i have thought about it and think i may try for some late birds for mid to late august when i return. This will get me tuned in for the coming years and hopefully i will learn all there is to caring for the birds.
  15. Old Yellow, your detailed replies are very welcome, thanks a lot, you aswell GEO a lot of questions i never thought about all the best
  16. my god I have a lot to learn:)
  17. As i had said probably have the loft up and sorted for returning from hols mid august this year, is that too late for what you call late bird stock? also do i join local club first?
  18. Yes that was the point, i would like to get some birds to make sure i know what i am doing for next season then at least i have an idea what to do next season.
  19. thanks should I not get birds to familiarise with the loft
  20. Hi everyone, i am in my first season, i am not a loft or bird owner at present, however i have been watching with interest a local loft for the past year. I have been bitten by the bug and want to set up my own loft. I am going on holiday soon, therefore i plan to prepare the loft prior to the holiday and then stock it on my return. My question to all is, is this a good time to set up? i dont wish to compete this season but would like to be set up for next, any advice would be appreciatted? i am facinated by the whole science behind it and dont see myself as highly competative but i would compete. also is this a good time to purchase stock birds or young birds to train (mid August)? I am in the Airdrie area and would like to know who i contact for a local club. Thanks in advance.
