  1. I've not finalised it yet, but will be one of two hens, one is a 97 hen that has bred good pigeons up to thurso north nearly 500 miles and Pau south nearly 600 miles south. The other, sire was 1st combine Thurso and the dam 2nd combine thurso and has combine pigeons in its pedigree. They both have similar breeding and mainly go back to louella Van Geels. They were from a friend's sale who died, who was a very hard long distance task master and the 97 hen features in most of his pedigrees.
  2. I suppose this has been spoken about before on here, but what is the state of pigeon racing around Britain. 20 years a ago my club in Bedfordshire had 40 flying members sending 500 pigeons a week, the Fed [now disbanded] up to 2500 birds, and the combine [now disbanded] up to 6000 birds, and within 10 miles of me there were 6-7 healthy clubs. Now my club will be lucky to have 10 members, and soon it will be the only club in the area. On the housing estate I live there were 15-20 flyer's, now there is only me Whats the state of affairs in other parts of Britain i.e Midlands, North of England, Scotland, Wales and even Ireland. Cant be the same all over surely ??
  3. Hi I'm looking for a long distance hard day cock to buy cheapish/loan please, to pair to a spare hen. I bought some birds from a local fancier who died, and his son messed up the sexes which meant I bought all hens ??) I'm not worried about strains just as long as its closely bred down from hard day long distance pigeons. I want to win 500/600 hard day races Please leave a message here or PM me with any details. Thanks.

  5. Thanks for the replies and advice...I was wondering if they have territories and this one has made my garden its territory ? I'll have to try and get rid of it, I don't really want it nesting around my garden using my eggs and young to feed its young

  9. Hello all..newby to the board here Every morning for the last few months, I have had a Magpie in my garden. It jumps around my garden, sometimes flying up to the front of my lofts, I have an old fashioned style lofts with wire on the front. My ratdog [jack Russell] runs out and chases it up when its in the garden, but it just flies up into the trees. I haven't seen it in the garden during the day much, but I have seen it lurking in the trees. Is it any threat to my pigeons?? especially when I have eggs and youngsters in the nest. If so what can I do ?..I've lived in this house over 35 years with pigeons and its the first time I've ever had this. Any advice will be helpful...thanks.
