City secure top-four spot Crouch own-goal ensures City will participate in the Champions League http://img.skysports.com/11/05/496x259/harcrop_2595372.jpg Peter Crouch's unfortunate own goal ensured Manchester City are guaranteed a top-four Premier League finish following a 1-0 win over Tottenham. The result moves City to within two points of second-placed Arsenal,http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and assures them a place in the UEFA Champions League qualification third-round at the very least. City required only one goal to settle the contest, and it came on the half-hour mark as James Milnerhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif fizzed in a low cross following a short corner, with Crouch inadvertently directing it into his own net. The irony in Crouch scoring the goal was inescapable as, at the very same end last term, the England forward sent Tottenham on a rollercoaster Champions League journey with the goal that sealed their top-four finish last season. Defeat leaves Tottenham in sixth place, two points behind Liverpool,http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif who they face at Anfield this weekend in a head-to-head battle for the final Europa League qualification spot.

Man City v Tottenham http://img.skysports.com/11/05/496x259/Harry-Redknapp-Tottenham-Hotspur-Premier-Leag_2594111.jpg http://img.skysports.com/11/03/496x259/Manchester-City-v-Reading-Roberto-Mancini_2573337.jpg FA Cup final-bound Manchester City will be aiming to wrap up fourth place on Tuesday and prolong Tottenham's recent wobble. City came agonisingly close to securing UEFA Champions League football last season, only for defeat in a home date with Spurs to leave them on the outside looking in. It appeared at one stage as though history could repeat itself this season, with the Blues having found themselves in direct competition with Tottenham once more. Roberto Mancini's men can, however, ensure that it is they who are celebrating this term with three points at Eastlands in midweek. The one concern for City heading into the game will be their recent record against Spurs, which does not make for impressive reading. They have won just one of their last 15 Premier League meetings with the capital club, collecting just six points from a possible 45 during that run. City have also failed to find the target in their last three fixtures against Tottenham
