try and get hold of some books on racing pigeons and try brittish homing world weekly mag.

read and get the basics before getting any birds.

well i was planning on buying my first pigeons tomorow but i see most of you guys have lofts and i dont i have a old shed with some perches ... now im really changeing my mind do i need nest boxes or a new loft ???? all i have is a few perches ...... :( sorry if i sound stupid

my shed is quite large and yes it is free from damp im sorry i dont know exact size of shed so ok lets say the shed is fine.... what do i need in there like i say i have perches thats it .......

if it is just ybs you are getting the a shed with perches will do fine. make sure you have a wire basket for birds to see out side world 1st. also you will need a proper drinker and a feeder or hopper ,so as birds get clean water and feed. at a later point you will need breeding pens. if you are going to breed.but it is easy to nock up a few boxes and they will serve you as breeding boxes pens

you dont need to go to that extent to start with, any type of box of similar size will do fineor even smaller does the job.i have seen a pair lay eggs and rear yb,s in a 2 gallon bucket and race to it.

i have raced my main team this year to an old 8x6 garden shed. with a lot of very good results.

thanks for all the responces im going to get some breeding boxes as i have just got got some pairs for free from here and im going to breed them for next year i might be posting for help on breeding but lets ee how it goes lol :):)

oright bud ive just started up with pigeons the advice i would give you is get hold of the racing pigeon mag and homing world mag if you no local flyers pop round tell them your interested in starting up with pigeons the blokes i went to see all came round my house and told me what i need advise i would give for aquireing birds is pick from the best flyer that is doing well on the distances you intend to fly i like long distance so i went to local long distance flyer and aquire busshaert which down the line he put them threw spangles but basically if you no any flyers or even better if you could find out the local federation were they go to basket the birds for races you will be put in the right place people will help you out dont be scared to ask after all they all was beginners at one time wish you the best of look.
