Guest Paulo Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Well seriously thinking of calling it a day in this sport what is it with pigeon men they are like little kids at times. A few of you know I have had problems in my club since I joined this year. Part of it is there was a bit of bad feeling generated when the allotment site the local flyers were on was sold off to build houses on. The council offered everybody new allotments and quite a few of the flyers took them and then dropped them when the chairmen of the club said they should fight their case and get let to stay on or get new lofts and money as compen. The Parish Council tried their best for them but because the land was leased from the parish council from a landlord they had no say in being evicted legally. The council said they couldn’t afford lofts etc but did stuff like offer to clear the spare gardens of rubbish down the new site where other pigeon blokes and allotment holders have had allotments for years they also offered new fences. My family had had pigeons for years in total they had had the allotments up there for 50 years and had flown pigeons quite well winning a lot of races. I had kept some pigeons after they packed in when my granddad died. I had these pigeons as pets for years when I was growing up then I went through that phase where you’re more interested in lots of beer and birds of the non feathered kind. I only had a couple of pigeons left but didn’t want to kill them so we decided to downsize as my dad had no time for all the other animals up there he kept like geese, hens etc because he also keeps horses and got an allotment down there which had been refused twice by the other pigeon men. Did a lot of hard work down there building a new loft and setting a veg garden etc. Anyway my interest in pigeons was rekindled forgot how much fun they are so thought well if I’m building a new loft I mays well start racing. So I joined the local club anyway one night had an argument with the chairman as he had a go at us for being “first off the allotments etc’’ it was a verbal argument and he tried to goad me into a fight and offered me outside and then even said he’d get the boys to sort me out.’’ I got made a probationary member of the club through this which I was tempted to go to the NEHU about cause I don’t see how they can do this for an argument I always thought it had to be something more serious. Plus I had a bit to drink as well so being by nature quite calm I thought sod it just ignore the lot of them and enjoy the pigeons. So since then I have kept my head down and just did my duties at the club and enjoyed the birds. Put a lot of hard work in and have been lucky enough to get a lot of good advice from people on here have built a good team of young birds up who are flying well and have just took them for their first toss today and got all back apart from three who will prob be there when I go down tonight. Anyway the last few weeks have been a pain in the *expletive removed* the bloke beside me and the bloke behind me aren’t winning and their widowhood cocks are flying rubbish. They are trying to blame me saying its because I let my YB’s out on the morning but at the end of the day the other guys are winning and his pigeons are out at the same time. I’ve tried to fit around them even getting up at 4.30amto let mine out but they keep changing their times all the time. I never whinge when their pigeons cause me incontenive like when he chases his cocks out before waiting for me to get my second team of YB’s in causing my birds to fly up before they are ready lost one or two this way. Anyway things came to a head last night one of them has recently lost a white fantail shaker and he has been making some comments about two legged thiefs have got it. Anyway I was gifted a white tumbler last year off one of the other lads on the allotment it has been up my grans garden for a few months as it is a cock and would have battered the yb’s about anyway have the new stock loft up spout it in there while I treated it for cocci, worms, canker before letting it loose in my racing teams section. Anyway this bloke has obviously seen it at the window and jumped to conclusions. I wouldn’t have minded if he had just asked me “Paul is that Fantail mine?’’ and I would have happily let him have a look at it. I went down to the garden last night and there were three of them waiting for me. His first words were “Paul I’ve have my fantail back!’’ now I don’t know what you think but to me the man was calling me a thief and in front of other people. So I went off it “its not your fantail it’s a tumbler.’’ And dragged him the allotment and showed him it he was forced to admit it wasn’t his. Now I don’t know what you think but from where I come from calling someone a thief is serious business and you have to be 200% sure when I was in Thailand I have heard stories of thais killing people who insult their honour and family. I demanded an apology and got a half arsed one and he had a go at me for having a go at him for calling me a thief what does the man expect!!! He said “We were arrogant people and everybody down the allotments hated us and all this other crap anyway I kept my cool just I was literally shaking with anger and wanted to hurt him so bad I had to walk away as if I hit him I’d get kicked out of the club. I nearly had two crashes driving home I was that angry. The worst thing that got me I have known this bloke since I was a little kid and even used to clean his pigeons out for him my dad has given him good pigeons in the past as well. Told my dad and he went off it I’ve never seen him so angry apart from when I crashed the van. He drove down told me not to do anything as I would get thrown out of the club and had a right go at him calling him a bullying git and had a good sound off. Also told him what was their problem I was a novice and they all said well his pigeons are going well for a novice implying my dad was racing them which he isn’t he only comes down the loft to do his veg garden. Anyway this bloke bottled it tried to goad him into a fight but he wasn’t having it opened the boot of his car and tried to get a hammer out before realising that if he did both of us would chin him and ran into his allotment like the coward he is. It was ok him accusing me of being a thief and insulting my honour when he had two people to back him up then he got arsy when he realised I wasn’t a kid anymore and wasn’t going to take it lightly and then his *expletive removed* fell out even more when it was two against three. The other two stayed out of it well one of them came to the gate saying everybody should calm down before I told it had nothing to do with him and he’d best stay out of it. Then there’s all the other bitchyness going on I still haven’t been given my distances they did my distances on an out of date map cause they reckon they lost the currant one and they never give me any rota sheets. There’s also some nom rings called X rings they never told me about. I’ve had enough at the minute what’s their problem I’m a 26 year old bloke they should hope more people are coming into the sport not going on like this. If they have a problem with my dad from years ago than why take it out on me. As for being aggogent I can only think it’s because I don’t have any open garden policy like them but that’s because I don’t want any diseases in the loft. Other fanciers on here have visited my loft and I’ve always been friendly to them. I’ve had more help off people on here and other blokes who aren’t in their club. The annoying thing is they are always trying to tell me what to do with my pigeons I just politely nod but underneath I can’t help thinking I don’t give advice out to you lot and tell you what to do so who’s aggogent there. The other day the bloke who called me a thief was keep saying “you want to train them pigeons before you lose them.’’ Because they are raking well I just agreed but what’s hiss problem if I want to train them it’s up to me not him. Is that arrogance we all pay equal amounts of money to fly our pigeons if we just want to keep our heads down and get on with it well we should be allowed to. I’ve never once bragged to them or said I’ll win anything I’m a beginner fair enough I’ve been gifted and brought some very nice yb’sbut they aren’ton the dark or nowt I’ll be chuffed to get a chalk but honestly I’ll be happy just to get them all home and enjoy the season.
frank-123 Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 paulo keep calm get yourself a cold can of beer drink it slowly and think to yourself i dont give a flying *expletive removed* what anybody says race your birds and enjoy them there is more important things going on in your life to worry about these knobs good luck mate enjoy your beer !!!!!!
jimmyxl Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 let your ybs do the talking say nothing when you lose and even less when you win these people have sad lives so let them live it however if the birds are not on the dark you will hard pushed to compete with the sad people the birds will be better as yearlings good luck
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Dont give up Paul is there not another club you can joinb near by am sure they will be more than happy to take you on board if there is as the sport is DIEING out just now we need all the members we can. I used to fly in the allotment in my area but we all had enough space to ignore anyone who annoyed you maybe you should consider puting up a bigger fence around your patch instead of giving up all together. I am a 25year old who has never had pigeons in there family history as lng as any living member can remember. I have now moved them up to my house and i have had the best first 2 seasons I could wish for winning all but 1 young bird race last year and I have won all but 2 old bir races this year with 3 more to go. Hope his helps yours in sport Greig Drysdale
Guest Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Paolo, Don't bite with these people. I know exactly where you are coming from, and the anger and frustration you are feeling. I've been in the same boat. They seem like they are intimidating you, hoping you will crack and lamp one of them, so that you will be expelled from the club/Fed/Combine and union. DON'T TAKE THE BAIT, once you've done what they ar trying to get you to do, they have got you mate! Don't take the bait! Concentrate on your birds, thats where the pqain gets them, when you put your clock on the table and you've beaten them. It sounds to me as though your dad has been a good flier over the years, and you are being victimised to get you out before you become the same! THEY ARE FRIGHTENED OF YOU, and your POTENTIAL. You must be doing something right! As regards to letting your birds out, you seem to have tried our best to fit in with them, they choose to fob you off, so just do your own thing, WHEN IT SUITS YOU, NOT THEM! Nobody owns the skies, as I was told when I was in the same boat, despite my TRYING to reason! Don't let them spoil your enjoyment mate, otherwise they have won as thats what they are trying to do. You will spoil theirs by beating them weekly, do it that way! Concentrate on your birds. Keep out of bother at the club, do what you have to dutywise and if the intimidation persists, and you can back up what is happening with hard evidence, go through the union. It is conduct unbefitting a human being never mind a union member, sport for all not just the chosen few. Mind you, if they ever come the violent way, give them it like you have never given it before, but only if they start it! DON'T GIVE IN................
Guest Paulo Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Thanks for the advice lads its just that frustating. I mean every time they have a race in the club I try and make an effort to see the winner and congratulate him as I believe in sportsmanship. When I was fighting in boxing and thai boxing I always tried to be a sportsman and never made excuses when I lost a fight. My reasoning was if I lost it was my own fault I either had not wanted it enough or prepared enough for it or when I knew I had given my best and tried and failed the other guy was simply better, faster and stronger and deserved to win. So all this backstabbing and pettiness is totally alien to me. I must say a lot of pigeon blokes I met have warned me that there are alot of people in the sport like this but on the other hand I have brought pigeons off people who are decent flyers and then because you are a young lad starting off they make a special effort and give you some eggs, or a few extras etc and a lot of sound advice and you think well not people are bad are they. I must admit I was adamant I was going to pack in this morning and this may sound a bit gay to you lads but I took the yb's for there first toss this morning. Its the first time I've ever took pigeons training that I have bred myself from babies and watched develop and the feeling of watching them when they first went up then circled and then driving home and they had beaten me and were bombing around the loft its almost magical how they do it!!! Bet its evenb better when you get first one back from a channel race. I'm not going to hit anybody anyway because:- A:- I've got nothing to prove to myself. I've fought in the ring before and never given up even when I've been knocked down twice in one round before lol. B. Its what they want C. Its not worth it would get kicked out of the union plus I'm a building surveyor at work so any criminal charges on my record would see me loosing my job and finding it hard to find work. I just hope they don't try and hurt the birds
Guest Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 PAOLO, I'm sincerely pleased you are sticking with it. Your description of training the youngsters does not sound gay or even camp at all! Thats the BUZZ mate, if you haven't got that warm fuzzy exciting feeling around the birds, you SHOULD pack it in! Thats the bug mate, and I for one am sincerely pleased to hear you have it! It gives me a buzz hearing about it in someone else! Once you have it, it never leaves you, even if you do pack in, its still there, chipping away! One saturday you'll be out doing something inane like shopping with yor lass, you'll look up, see a stock going over, and its there again, in your stomach, a sharp jolt of electricity. Definately not gay mate! I too used to do the Thai Kickboxing, Muy Thai, but never fought in the ring! These muppets will know you practice martial arts, and would use that against you if you ending up fighting! You have nothing to prove to anyone, except yourself with the birds mate! Good luck and stay cool, you are alet to whats going on, so you are one step ahead now, keep it that way, and try to take the first six every week if you can! That will hurt them so much more than chinning them mate, trust me, I KNOW.........
Guest Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 dont give up race yir doos never mind the arseholes ps whens the next chapter ;D ;D ;D
stevebelbin Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 I hope the bushaerts do the talking for you Paul lol!! Just carry on as normal and ignore him, stick a big fence up between the gardens and enjoy letting your birds out whenever you want. Have you got cramp from all that typing lol lol lol
Guest Paulo Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 just can't believe how petty people are Steve. In fact its the bloke who gave me a lift through to yours when I got the first ones off you. Wouldn't care but last month he was whinging about wanting to fit a sputnik for his youngsters haven't had time to fit that one you gave me so I gave it to him for nowt thinking I'll just get a new one when I finally get the new cree made. Why would I be giving him stuff and then nicking a fantail worth all of two quid!!!

Guest Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Thats the way mate, come on here and vent your spleen, then chill out and have a laugh with the lads! Stress kills mate, don't let them stress either you or your Dad! Enjoy your birds, and put the sh*t heads out of your mind! Iwas going to say "keep up the good work!" but that would be taking the mick a bit wouldn't it! ;D
Guest Paulo Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 well I had a 10.00 o clock start because the flexi is good and I wanted to sneak the birds away training while they were all at work and think I'll have an early finish as well lol.
