pjc Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 would be much more economical to go together on 1 transporter, saveing fuel, wages etc etc and as the birds are coming to the same area.
pjc Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Easy solution wings, have leagues withing large clubs giving everybody a chance. I can see long term, there being no clubs and just nationals etc with large marking stations, and no longer messing around with small clubs! Phil
OLDYELLOW Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 sorry to hijack your thread Damian but i believe with the petrol prices food bills and needless overheads ectra, pigeon racing needs a dam good shaking to put years of neglect and decline into another century, from union(s) to fanciers.
wings Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 That sounds good, it is just getting some of the older hands interested. a lot of these clubs have been going a long time.
ionela Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 In my area to aprox.30 km ist 4 clubs with 240 membres. The sport pigeons advanced from year to year.
Novice Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 In my area to aprox.30 km ist 4 clubs with 240 membres. The sport pigeons advanced from year to year. That's good news. Just the opposite from here.
billy wilson Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 well said mark agree with everything you said the price of petrol is the killer for training this year,20mile per gallon for my car and the same for my mate both have old volvos, but will have to cut something out to get them down the road there was always a chap used to come with a box trailer for 1.50 a basket be there was greedy sods used to fill a basket between two or three of them the lad got wise and stopped coming ,theres always one or two who will always spoil it fo others.
Guest Vic Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Fraid to say, your suggestions will have to improve! to make any difference whatsoever!
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Most interesting thread.Statements like i will just enjoy it while i can,is simply not good enough. Weehave loads of work to do in order to secure the future of our great sport, and a total top to bottom reconstruction from union level down. Strong leadership would draw up Fed and Club boundries. Why this is not based on Parlimentry or Local government seats is beyond me. (Example) The Midland Fed,where is Midland, take it is so called due to the fact it is midway between,Lanarkshire and say the North West Fed. Safe to say at least 90% of that Fed fly from within the regeon of North Lanarkshire. If its good enough for our Schools and infrostructure why is it not good enough as a fedaration area Because wee wullie feel out with Big George years ago, where i stay is not allowed in the local club,so you traval some 5 /10 miles and join that club ,and you get treated like an out cast. We can do a lot better than this going forward but it will take fundamental changes in order to lay the foundations to turn things round BUT IT COULD BE DONE. Power to the people Rab (I will tell you this Boy)
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 it just seems rab that there isnt many people willing to step up and fight for this im new to the game so dont know nearly enough to know where to start. I get the impression that people like moaning that its a dying sport and its this and that but no one is willing to fight for it. Just my opinion.
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 damain, Your spot on mate. Just that it is frustrating to think there is nothing we can do to better out future. Topics and threads like this are often used to vent that frustration. 20 years agothere were about 20 lofts within my area,to day there will be less than three. The powers at be must be aware of this, and i ask what has been done to reverse this trend NOTHING All the best for the future mate.
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 True Rose, We need someone who is already in a position of authority, to make changes and to argue points for and against, various issues within our sport. A committee who can comunicate and compile a report on the decline and posable proposals in order to attempt to save it, and change our fortunes.T his could be done at uk Level. The results of our decline alone (Numbers past and present) may just be enough to prompt a change within our sport.
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 there is alot of members here on this forum alone why not stand up and be heard we have nothing to loose. We all work and have families and time is something we get less and less of but we all have a common interest pigeons. Why cant we try and get something done. Who knows this time next year pigeon racing will be no more.
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Through discussions on this site there is no reason why a comprahensve study, could not be carried out by interested parties, working together in order to highlight the decline putting it into numbers, and ideas and proposals to reverse this trend. After a report has been compiled it could be presented at union level, and published in our press I for one would be interested in such a ventrure Not just change for change sake
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 rab how can this be started, this is a step in the right direction
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Rose you make a very good point, just one of the many points that need to be addressed. Damain, will discuss this in depth soon, once i have had a chance to think the best way forward. if anyone feels like minded please PM me. We have a great medium here lets try and use it
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 no probs rab something is better than nothing
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Lets see who gets back to us, and with what. That way we will see if they are just venting there frustrations, or do they wish to contribute. Happy days guys Happy days
Guest Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 the only way to change any thing is to get every club to put it in writing to the RPRA head office ,other wise they dont take notice ,and what chance is there of clubs writing in to change things .[THIS IS PIGEON RACING] where we all tickalong with what has always been done .ATB les.
Merlin Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Why not draw up a list of good practices, and bad, and offer alternatives Q/ The format for reporting strays, outdated, unworkable,to the detriment of the pigeon. A/ Any pigeon to have a chance to be reported to carry a Tel No/Name and address ring
Guest shadow Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 this rhetoric has gone on for the past 20 years many have tried even the great steve spinks of blackpool but nothing has really changed you can force people to join when they are not interested general apathy of society today
Merlin Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Dont disagee with your sentiments Shadow, but if you dont even try, well last one out ,turn off the light, because as it is,we are nose diving into oblivion, sooner rather than later.
pjc Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Les, if everybody wrote to the unions they would still take no action and there reply would be you need to go through your club then region then council! If the union put out a questionare in the papers for all members to complete and return, there is so much apethy that only about 10% would be returned! I seem to remember a questionaire was sent to regions a few years ago but nothing changed. Phil
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Phil, Hi Mate Surley if we compile a report on findings of a study they would at least listen to new thoughts and ideas. Like all politics, you have got to have a set agenda and proposals in order to get people to follow and support you. By going to the people by listning to them and taking this back to the authorities we would at least be seen to be trying. I thingk we could get someone to listen Phil
