RoosterBoy Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 I am new to pigeons, always wanted to have my own coop, I finally put one together after working on it for a couple weeks.A Local Breeder gave me 21 young Roller Pigeon to help start me out. I found out the first day I placed the pigeons in the coop that I have a Hawk problem. By the second day one dived within 10 feet of the top of the cage with me standing there in plain view, all the pigeons flew inside all at once ,I looked up and saw these two huge claws with long legs.I am sure sure what kind it was but it was brown red ,looked like a camaflouge jet. It been one week since I started out and for the past 5 days I can see a pair gliding in a circle High up in the ski. I want to fly my pigeons, I never thought Hawks would be a problem, I live in Connecticut ,does anyone know what I can do to rid my Hawk problem ? I just joined this Message forum today and will attend a Local pigeon club meeting next week. Thanks Jason

Guest Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 build a hawk trap then relocate them as far away as you can it will cure the problem for a while untill another pair take over in the eara then you have to do it all again, but dont try to harm them in any way its a big fine now or even prisson.
RoosterBoy Posted July 7, 2006 Author Report Posted July 7, 2006 Thanks barlbylofts for the info. I cannot find any info on how to build a Hawk trap ,if the hawks keep scaring the daylights out of my birds I will have to try making one. The birds the breader gave me are Rollers Pigeons, I will try letting them fly once I can get rid of the Hawks . Thanks Jason

Henrik Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Roosterboy just a bit of advice it is totally illegal to set traps for hawks with a big fine or prison for doing so never mind harming the things.
jimmy white Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 it might be worth finding out if there is any law applied to this matter in connecticut as this law applies to us in the uk,
Chatrace Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 All Raptors are protected in the States. Fines can go as high as $10,000 and jail time . be very careful with your relocation program :-)
lordcornwallis Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 nice setup good luck and enjoy yourself and all the best. as for the raptors , if only you could use rule 303 regards lc
