Good post Gareth putting up the 1961 Rennes result.

As I have posted before the old traditional race points from years ago always seem to have a better across country spread.

Winner east section, 4th open West section, top 50 positions East 22, West 15 and south 13, notice 3rd west section 12th Open is flying up into Dumbarton.

Am I wrong in saying the West from Avranches, Rennes and Nantes, had more positions than they do these days from the easterly race points.

Yes they did but this is not down to direction of liberation sites, the problem is the drag has changed from the west and south section to the east.

Ayrshire, Renfrew and Glasgow pigeons where in abundance on these results in the 60's, unfortunately this confidence has been lost, and it would have to be said that this confidence to send was lost due to the peregrine problem.JMO

Dont forget that the 1961 Rennes result was a south east wind,

A lot of boys from the West moved East to follow the pit work guess they swelled the numbers of doo men in the 60's and 70's in the East So it may have had an impact on the drag it would be good to see what the section birdage was in these races.

Doesn't seem to give the birdage in each section, Total of 5273 pigeons in race sent by 2427 members.

Prizes

Open 399

East 143

West 160

South 20

No north section, perhaps some of the older fanciers could tell us why.

in the years 1952_1953 and 1954 alex galloway of leslie, sent his blue hen surp 49 e 8612 to compete in the scottish national from rennes 563 miles.it was122 sect, 320 th open in 1953 but in 1953 and 1954 it was without success. in 1955, ,at six years old, 8162 was sent back again, and this time she won6th open and section from 6,201 entries 2,485 members. the following year,1956, she was sent again and this time the seven year old hen proved to be the winner in an exciting finish, winning the kings cup, the gold cup and a string of other trophies. the second bird, was a three year old cock of e r williamson,s of kirkaldy, and the third was a six year old hen of robert strachan of of invergowrie, surp 50 l 3740, which had been fourth open and section the year previously. the point i wish to make is that mr galloway might have given up sending8612 after two failures, and both mr galloway and mr strachan might have been forgiven stopping these ageing hens after there success in 1955 in which case these good hens would not have had the the chance of proving just how good they were
